As suggested by the title, each segment of this Travel Channel feature offers views from a car window, which are identified via highway signs and maps that will help the real traveler locate the route on a road atlas. Oncamera narrator Steve Fox outlines scenic points and historical monuments, and spotlights local artists. The excursion begins in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains with a trip down Skyline Drive through the Shenandoah Valley. After a talk with Appalachian trail hikers, it's on to the Booker T. Washington Monument and to Lexington's Virginia Military Institute. In the peak of the fall foliage season in Vermont, cameras take viewers to Ben & Jerry's ice-cream factory, to poet Robert Frost's cabin, and across state lines to illustrator Norman Rockwell's hometown of Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Michigan's Upper Peninsula-- 500 miles and a world away from Detroit--features the mineral-hued Pictured Rocks, charter fishing, iron mine tours, and handcrafted wooden spoons at "The Last Place on Earth." While this 58-minute tape's approach is far from comprehensive, it makes for interesting watching, and will give the traveler ideas for an itinerary. --Kimberly Heinrichs
