The Extreme, Garfield, NJ, Feb. 95
The first track, Through My Lovers Eyes, actually reminded me of Talking Heads, circa Little Creatures. Jerrys keyboards are instantly recognizable. Tanin has a strong voice which alternately reminds me of Jerrys, David Byrnes, and Mike Peters (of the Alarm). Out Of My Head starts with Aint got no postcard / Aint got no letter, which would seem to be a direct reference to the Heads Life During Wartime. The song has a wonderfully moving beat and some funny lyrics. My favorite track on the CD...Little Black Book stands out, on account of its party-rock beat and its attitude...
Product Description
Sublime Nation is an independent shot with some major league collaborations... that has clean, up tempo pop melodies swimming in a mix of bright guitars, neatly arranged synthesizers and harmonies. Tanin's voice approximates something that sounds like a spry Donald Fagen minus the cynicism as he goes through a roster of love songs that are unique in that they are so unabashedly straight faced in a time when vague lyrical allusions reign supremo.
