4.0 out of 5 stars Dry your ears....., October 7, 2000
By A Customer
Some folks who love AD2 swear that their best venue is live. I don't really agree, but there's no denying that they pack a punch on this live album. "Archangel Thunderbird" and "Eye-Shaking King" rip plaster off the walls, the series of pieces from DANCE OF THE LEMMINGS get positively sinister treatments (Chris Karrer on violin is particularly stunning) and the singing is forceful if not always tuneful (vocals never were Amon Duul 2's strong suit). It's a good live album (WAY better than the one the reconstituted band did in Tokyo in 1994!) and if you like these psychokillers' early Seventies studio albums, you'll enjoy it. Come to think of it, if you like the Velvet Underground circa "Sister Ray," you have absolutely no excuse not to like this album. So there!

4.0 out of 5 stars Amon Duul II - 'Live In London' (Mystic), October 7, 2005
Concert took place in late 1972,but the record wasn't released until 1974.'Live In London' shows the curious modern day fans(like myself)just how Amon Duul II was able to nearly master their sound as well as vibe on a concert stage. This is a very strong performance,I thought.Tunes here are mostly from the 'Yeti' and 'Tanz Der Lemmings' albums.Cuts I was more than impressed with were the grand krautrock gem of an opener "Archangel Thunderbird","Eye Shaking King" and "March of The Seventies".The two bonus tracks tagged on are good too,the 17-minute "Bavarian Soap Shop Rock" and "Improvisation On Gulp A Sonata" appear to be remixes of lp cuts.No matter,'Live...' is still a keeper.A should-have.

5.0 out of 5 stars whoa!, August 9, 2005
By Warren W. Nelson (Mooresville, NC USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Early Amon Duul II were at a creative and imaginative pinnacle in their brand of progressive-psychedelia and this album captures them performing with great inspiration and force! Certainly one of the finest psychedelic bands, this could be their best album. The guitar work and the drumming are great and their otherworldly trippiness glows like an acid ember. Material is drawn from their first three albums and well recorded and and remastered by 'EROC at the ranch' on the Repertoire editions with two bonus cuts (the 18:00 minute 'Bavarian soap shop rock' and 'Improvisation on a gulp A sonata') which are amazing. A consistant and challenging rock and roll performance!
