Product Description

The Zoom/FaxModem 56K Dualmode models are high-speed V.90 voice faxmodems with the ability to receive data from compatible sites at speeds up to 56,000 bps, and at higher speeds with compression. They incorporate both the V.90 ITU 56K Standard and K56flex, the most widely supported non-ITU 56K technology, to achieve download speeds nearly twice as fast as any conventional analog modem. That means fast access to the Internet, World Wide Web, and local area networks (LANs) over standard phone lines.Dualmode models automatically connect in ITU V.90 mode, K56flex mode, 33.6 Kbps, or any other ITU International or Bell standard speed to achieve the fastest, most reliable connection possible. They feature reprogrammable Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) and flash memory for downloading updates for all modem code, including DSP and Controller code. All models include Plug and Play for easy installation. Dualmode faxmodems provide high-quality voice mail when used with a soundcard. They also have both Class 1 14.4 Kbps send/receive fax for convenient printer-quality faxing to any faxmodem or fax machine. You can even "broadcast" your faxes to multiple recipients, schedule fax transmission, or forward them to another number.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powers thru bad phone lines, April 1, 2003
By Michael Mann (Camp Hill, Alabama United States) - See all my reviews
Living in the sticks like I do, broadband is nothing but a dream. But it also means I have old MaBells phone lines. Which of course means I consestently log on at 19.2 - 21.6 on my old US Robotics 56k modem. But this new modem powers thru these bad lines. Now logging in at over 40k. Now that's a good thing. One word of advice. If you decide to buy this modem (a worthy investment) don't listen to Amazon with their reccomeditions on cables. DO NOT order Belkin F2J088-06 Modem Cable; DB25M/F; 6 Feet unless you have an old computer (older than say 4 years or more) You need a cable that goes from 25 pin male (modem side) to 9 pin female (computer side). Just thought I'd pass that along

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good quality, reliable modem, August 26, 2001
By Paul M. Dubuc (Columbus, OH USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
If you depend on a modem to connect to the internet, you should pay for a good quality one. This external modem works very reliably and is easy to install (you will need to buy a serial cable for it.) The instructions are clear. It also comes with very nice software for fax, voice mail, e-mail and computer terminal emulation. The modem will also work with Linux as well as Windows.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zoom modem lives up to it's name, January 8, 2001
By "cybercarl" (Taylors, SC) - See all my reviews
January 2001

My internal 56K modem never got above 26,400 bps, so I wanted to try another type of modem. The Zoom Model 2949 constantly runs at 43,000 bps or better on the same phone line where the old modem crawled along. Installation was very easy and Plug and Play does most of it automatically. You do need to have a serial modem cable, but that only costs about $5 or so. The Zoom manual is very thorough and provides good examples. All in all, I am very pleased with the Zoom 2949 and wished I had gotten one sooner.
