We know Arnold Schwarzenegger doesn't take himself too seriously--just see Twins and Jingle All the Way--but let's face it, Ah-nold is at his best when he's kicking butt and dropping cynical smart-ass quips. This set collects five of his most testosterone-driven classics: all action, all the time. The beefiest he-man to flex a bicep in Hollywood was never one for words, and he proved just what a strong, silent type could do as the tough, terse killing machine in The Terminator, the taut little low-budget sci-fi adventure that made his name. When he returned to the part in the high-gloss, effects-laden sequel Terminator 2: Judgment Day, he was too much a hero to go back to villain roles, but don't expect a kinder, gentler Arnold: the doomsday battle with his high-tech, quicksilver nemesis is a nonstop barrage of car wrecks, explosions, and knock-down, drag-out pummeling. In Predator he's the flesh-and-blood prey of an alien hunter, turning the tables with good-old-fashioned human ingenuity. Total Recall finds him a Joe Average worker of the future whose destiny brings him to the revolutionary struggle on Mars and unlocks a secret planted deep in his mind--after busting a few heads. In True Lies, Arnold's third film with action movie wunderkind James Cameron, he only pretends to be Joe Average, but under homebody attitude beats the heart of a superspy: James Bond with the physique of Mr. Universe. Together these films complete a portrait of the quintessential Schwarzenegger badass: tough, terse, take no prisoners. And just a hint of a self-effacing wink. --Sean Axmaker

From the back cover

The following videos are included in the Gift Set:

The Terminator--In the year of Darkness, 2029, the rulers of this planet have devised the ultimate plan. They will reshape the future by changing the past. The plan requires something that feels neither pity, pain, nor fear--a Terminator. Part man, part machine, the Terminator is sent back to present day Earth to kill Sarah Connor, a young woman whose life will have great significance in years to come. Sarah has but a single protector--Kyle Reese, also a visitor from the future. And as the Terminator wrecks an unspeakable path of destruction in his wake, the fate of the world lies on two humans who must defeat a mechanical monster completely devoted to his mission of murder.

Predator--Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as Major Dutch Schaefer in this action-packed adventure story of fighting men pitted against an unseen enemy, a force more powerful then the fiercest of weapons. Schaefer and his men, an elite military rescue unit, are recruited by the CIA to rescue hostages held by guerrilla fighters in the Latin American jungle. But once in the jungle, they encounter an enemy unimaginably more deadly than any on Earth--because the Predator is from another world. Stalked by the unseen foe and stripped of his weaponry, Schaefer must draw on his inner resources of instinct and intelligence as he faces his greatest challenge--staying alive.

Total Recall--When you can't trust your memory, how do you know what is real? The year is 2084, and a happily married man is confronted with the stunning realization that his life is a manufactured fantasy world. Complete with a gorgeous but deadly wife who suddenly wants to kill him. In an effort to discover his true identity, he flees into the mind-bending nightmarish reality of a Martian mining colony filled with rebellious mutants, and alluring and mysterious women--and ruled over by a terrorizing dictator who can alter reality to suit his whims.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day--Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as the Terminator in this explosive action-adventure spectacle. Now he's one of the good guys, sent back in time to protect John Connor, the boy destined to lead the freedom fighters of the future. Linda Hamilton reprises her role as Sarah Connor, John's mother, a quintessential survivor who has been institutionalized for her warnings of the nuclear holocaust she knows is inevitable. Together, the threesome must find a way to stop the ultimate enemy--the T-1000, the most lethal Terminator ever created.

True Lies--Harry Tasker, a top secret agent Omega Sector, dances a mean tango, but his neglected wife, Helen, thinks he's just a dull computer salesman. While Harry's been busy fighting terrorists, Helen's been gathering secrets of her own. When Harry tries to put right his marriage, his two lives unexpectedly collide, and both he and Helen find themselves in the clutches of international terrorists, fighting to save not only their marriage, but also their lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Collection, January 25, 2004
By BENJAMIN SANTINO FILIPPI (BRECKSVILLE OHIO USA) - See all my reviews
With the exception of True Lies, these are some of the best guy movies of all time. Not that True Lies is bad, it just lacks the incredible violence factor that is almost a necessity of a good guy movie; it trades that off for a more of a "cutesy" mass appeal. Overall, however, I think it provides a nice counterpoint to the other movies
