4.0 out of 5 stars The Wailers, April 12, 2002
By Josh Routhier (Kittery, ME United States) - See all my reviews
This is not only Bob Marley, but it's the original Wailers. Singing great songs on here such as Cheer Up, Can't You See, Go Tell it on the Mountain, Soul Captives, Soon Come, Hold on to This Feeling, Mr.Chatterbox, and all the instrumental takes at the end. This is a good collection of songs from the Wailers of 1969-70. And if you want the songs that came right before this, see Rock to the Rock, and Selassie is the Chapel, both inwhich I reviwed. And there is also a story behind this CD. Buy and it will explain. Along with keep you going with good Wailer music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fair-weather Marley fans dont know true quality, March 8, 2001
By A Customer
I was very dissapointed to see such negative remarks being made about this collection of early Marley tunes by so many of the reviewers. No, this CD doesnt have tracks from Legend on it, but Bob Marley made a hell of a lot of good tunes apart from 'three little birds' and 'no woman no cry. Most of these people are complaining that they bought something with a nice cover, and yet it wasnt a collection of Marley's all time greatest and most accessible tunes! Well if you took the time to properly listen to the tracks, you will realise that this is a compilation of some considerable quality. The recordings are all great quality and the label JAD is to be trusted, unlike many of the other pirate low-dollar Marley compilations. This album is a great find for all those true Marley lovers who are short on his pre-tuff gong recordings, and whilst it may not be the very casual reggae listeners cup of tea the tunes nor marley deserve the disgraceful off-handed treatment given by the naiive reviewers before me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not your typical Bob album, March 17, 2000
By A Customer
This Cd is not for eveyone. It's title can be very misleading, it is in no way similar to Legend: The Best of Bob Marley and wasn't meant to be. Actually the only way I can figure it is that the company ran out of good titles for there 8 CD collection and were stuck using something cliche. The whole collection in general is brilliant. All these CDs are great for alternate takes and never heard before versions, especially because it can be so difficult to find recordings from this period. All the songs are of the utmost sound quality. This whole collection is worth a serious look by any Bob fan, but if you're taking your first look at Robert Nesta Marley I would sugget starting with some Tuff gong releases (like Babylon by Bus.)

1.0 out of 5 stars Not So Good
Actually none of these songs sound very good: the audio is cheap, the quality is lacking but the box it comes in tricks you into expecting more.

1.0 out of 5 stars Best To Avoid
I bought this crud at Newbury Comics in Boston and the best thing about it was being able to throw it in the trash six hours later. Awful and insulting.
