Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
The Farrelly brothers, who brought us Dumb and Dumber and There's Something About Mary, have written a humorous tale starring Alec Baldwin, Shawn Hatosy, and George Wendt about a kid whose blue-collar dad ships him off to a prep school to learn how the better half lives. Plenty of classic rock accompanies the kid's travails since the movie has been set in the early 1970s, when The Eagles, Paul McCartney and Wings, and Steely Dan were the obvious soundtrack to one's coming of age. The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again" leads things off (much as it summed things up for Spike Lee's Summer of Sam). Free's classic rock staple "All Right Now" (the predecessor to Bad Company) is a natural, as is Lee Michael's rough and tumble "Do You Know What I Mean." And while "Stairway to Heaven" doesn't make an appearance, you can still flick your Bic to Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird." --Rob O'Connor

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic!, September 3, 1999
By A Customer
Great soundtrack - reminded me of being a little kid (especially the Eagles song, "Take It Easy")and going to rockin' backyard barbecues where I'd steal sips of beer. Classic conglomeration of all the early '70s faves. Such a universal appeal - kids, even though it may feel like you're rummaging through your parents record collection, all of these songs transcend their time periods. I remember singing along to "Free Bird" in the back of a Camero long after the song (and the car!) was in style. Get this soundtrack, and go see the movie, too - it's kind of a chick flick disguised as a guy flick - which means that everyone will like it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sadly, Not Available As an Eight Track, December 5, 1999
By Alf Kremer (Denver CO) - See all my reviews
I grew up a disco kid, and I was always in awe of the kids who fixed up their hotrods in their driveways...and this music was what was blaring out of them. Sort of an early 70's classic rock primer (plus "Band on the Run", which isn't really rocking, but still a good song). Either you know all this stuff and want it, or you don't and you don't.

1.0 out of 5 stars Deceiving and Disappointing, April 29, 2000
By A Customer
Here's the shot... You're at a movie. You hear about 15 plus songs you know and love. You, however, don't remember their titles. But you know you definitely want to own that particular mix. So you buy the soundtrack innocently believing the CD will have ALL the songs that were in the movie. You open the CD. You pop the CD into your CD player. The 12th song comes on. You press the button to go to the next song and it takes you back to one. TWELVE songs out of FIFTEEN plus that were in the movie on this CD. I say, RIP-OFF! I know what you're thinking. If the songs are listed then you should see there are only 12 and which songs they are. But if you're busy as I am and didn't think you'd have to do that because you expect the "soundtrack" to have all the songs in the movie, you buy; you unwrap; you listen. In my opinion, Giant Records is deceiving and disappointing with their "soundtrack" CD. They should have called it a 70's Mix, or something, not a soundtrack. Make sure you hear it before you buy to make sure the songs you like are on there. If you enjoyed the movie as I, and you want to relive it through the music, you will only be reliving some of it. Shame on you, Giant Records, for not putting all the movie's songs on your CD.
