Rekindle the Flame
"Believing in tradition, history, nostalgia, I don't want to give that up with the Raiders. I feel we're the last bastions of hope as a team image, as a team organization. We believe in tradition. We believe in tradition. We believe in the glory ... someone has to take this group into the future and make sure that they have greatness." --Al Davis
The torch has been passed to head coach Jon Gruden, who led the Raiders to an 8-8 record.
For decades, the fire that has burned brightest in this organization has been their will to win. In 1998, the Oakland Raiders were able to Rekindle the Flame.
Offensively, Tim Brown enjoyed another stellar season. The Raiders' all-time leading receiver finished 1998 with 81 receptions for more than 1,000 yards and 9 touchdowns.
Led by Pro Bowl defensive tackle Darrell Russell and defensive rookie of the year Charles Woodson, the silver and black managed to get better and younger at the same time on defense.
They have one of the most storied pasts in football history. In 1998 they were able to Rekindle the Flame. Now, the Oakland Raiders are ready for the future.
