5.0 out of 5 stars A wild wild adventure, November 12, 2002
By Brandon Cutro (Tyler, Texas United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Elmer Bernstein, a true legend in film music, who was 77 years of age when he wrote Wild Wild West (he's 80 now!) always continues to impress me on writing a great theme. The main theme is a little similar to Alfred Newman's How The West Was Won and showcases a powerful brass section and graceful strings. This is the highlight of "Main Title" and the second part of "Main Title" bursts into Lalo Schifrin urban funk type rhythms. The theme reoccurs in several cues including "Dismissal", "Trains, Tanks, and Frayed Ropes", "Goodbye Loveless", and "Ride The Spider". There is a substantial amount of action music present which is trademark Bernstein with lots of snare drums and driving string rhythms. Bernstein's son Peter provided underscore on cues such as "Tanks, Trains, and Frayed Ropes", and "Goodbye Loveless". The choral chant "Loveless Hallelujah" is present in the cue "Loveless' Plan". All together an outstanding effort by Bernstein who still remains one of the greatest composers in film history.

5.0 out of 5 stars Elmer's Still Got It!, August 29, 2000
By Dick Luzenski (Troy, Michigan United States) - See all my reviews
I remember seeing this movie back in the summer of 99', back when I was happy. Anyways, I recall wanting the score immediatly, but it was unavailable for a short amount of time. As soon as it made it to the market, I purchased it. The movie wasn't bad, and the people who dis it have just grown up too much and can't sit back and have a little fun. Anyway, for the score, director Barry Sonenfeld recruited legendary film composer Elmer Bernstein (THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, GHOSTBUSTERS)which was a great move on his part. Bernstein had a little help for this venture. his son Peter contributed to the score, but Bernstein's mix of symphonic western rythem, and a driving rock rage proves to be one of his most inovating acheivments. All tracks are smooth and melodic, but the main theme which is heard throughout is unforgettable. One thing I might mention is that when watching the actual film, one can decipher Bernstein's interpretation of the original t.v. theme in all its glory durring a hoarseback riding sequence. PURE GENIOUS! Just wish it made it to the album. HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED!

4.0 out of 5 stars Music from the Wild West just got more Wild!, February 11, 2002
By E -Man (Panama) - See all my reviews
Elmer Bernstein score is simply great, the muisc is a blend of western and rock. The only thing don't like is that the CD does not have the original TV theme that was in the part were James West rides off in to the sun set and will smith's song "Wild Wild West" and the soundtrack only has about 35 minutes. But score is sill great. I had never Heard of Elmer Bernstein untill "Wild Wild West" but if think that this will be like some of his soundtracks before "Wild Wild West" your wrong. Cool music for a cool film. I RECOMMEND.
