Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
The laid-back hip-hop groove and tongue-in-cheek non sequiturs--New Kids, Chinese food, Abercrombie & Fitch are all crammed into the song's first few lines--of LFO's Top 5 hit "Summer Girls" don't quite prepare the listener for the less loopy boy-groupisms that fill the rest of the trio's self-titled debut album. The single's wistfulness, though, does carry over into charming, well-sung cuts such as "Girl on TV" and "West Side Story." As does the flow of pop-culture references, many of which nicely presume that the target audience has a knowledge of events reaching beyond the first Backstreet Boys album. --Rickey Wright

4.0 out of 5 stars FEEL GOOD MUSIC, January 5, 2000
By A Customer
I am a 35 year old doctors wife. I recently visited our local Circut City Retailer, and have subsequently become obcessed with LFO. As I was purchasing a gift for my husband I happened to walk by the TV section and these gorgeous(minors I am sure) were singing Girl On TV. I was so embarassed to find myself standing there staring at the TV like a lovesick teeny bopper--but guess what, when I looked around, I wasn't the only woman drooling. I asked the lady next to me who they were, she didn't know either. I stayed until the video was over to find out who they were, and subsequently, bought the cd. The woman that had been standing next to me bought it also. I don't normally listen to this kind of music, but it is a feel good cd. It reminded me of summers that I spent at the beach as a teenager; fun times as a carefree kid with no responsibilities. I read the reviews, maybe its not music for rocket scientists, but lighten up, live a little--dream--remember what it is like to be young and in love! I have tried to find their dvd of Girl On TV to work out to--no luck yet--I'll keep looking. Oh, I have a 7 year old son and a 4 year old daughter who love their album too, we crank up the Vandersteins, sing and dance together in the living room. We like the beat. Don't take life so serious, live a little!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty phat!, November 20, 1999
By A Customer
I'm I die-hard Backstreet Boys fan, and I usually scream and switch the radio station-or T.V. faster than lightning whenever another boyband such as sorry wannabes-otherwise known as *NSYNC (Or where ever the little * goes!) come on. However, this is not true with L.F.O. I looove Girl on T.V. (shooby-do-wop and scooby snacks, met a fly girl and I can't relax.) They have a lot of talent and I enjoy listening to their music. (Even though I'll always love the BSB the best.) So get the C.D. I don't think you'll be dissapointed. Unless you love hard rock bands like Korn. Which you probably don't if you're considering buying this C.D. Anyway, I highly reccommend this C.D. If you're still not sure about this buy, listen to the samples. That helps a lot! Peace out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smooth, sophisticated, and spectacular!, June 16, 2000
By Elana (Florida) - See all my reviews
In this day and age, I'm not sure about which type of music appeals most to teenagers: is it violent rap songs with horrifying lyrics or cheesy boy bands? LFO combines smooth, four-letter-word-free rapping with charming, pop-like lyrics in their songs. This creates wonderful, breezy tunes that are perfectly suitable for young teenagers. And what's more, they won't promote violence. Brad, Devin, and Rich write about the happy memories of girls that they met during the summer, not bubbly "boy-bandish" heartbreak and rejection. Despite a few corny lyrics in a few of their songs, their self-titled album includes many well-sung tracks such as "West Side Story" and "Girl On TV." Plus, the mix of acoustic guitars and hip-hop beats in their songs sound absolutely stunning. While others might tell you that the guys are advertising Abercrombie and Fitch in "Summer Girls," this just isn't so. You see, when Rich sings, "I like girls that wear Abercrombie and Fitch," he is trying to say, "I like girls that are laid-back, comfortable with themselves, and don't dress up for me." LFO is one of the best groups out there today, and you can find true meaning in many of their songs. Well done, guys.
