4.0 out of 5 stars more of the same, October 9, 2002
By "dissolved_girl" (somewhere out there) - See all my reviews
It's a decent CD, there's no denying that -- it's a good techno mix, complete with pre-mainstream club-flavoured Moby, pre-Tori Amos hard trance BT, sweet trip-hoppy Cloak, and the retro-80's-flavoured vocal trance of Chicane. No, indeed, I suppose I can't complain about the selection, diverse enough to be interesting, similar enough to sound cohesive on a single CD. All flavours of electronic music. Chicane, BT, Moby...

See, the thing is, as I'm typing this, I feel like I could be typing a review for any of the Hackers albums. When a production company decides to release three soundtrack albums for a single film, they're definitely not trying to hide the fact that they're milking a cash cow, and I just wish they could have been a little more interesting about it. All three albums are so alike they're virtually interchangeable. They found a formula that markets well, and they're running with it.

To add insult to injury, I'm extremely disappointed that even after producing three albums, Massive Attack's "Protection" still fails to make an appearance, as it is a song featured prominently in the film. Somebody asked about it in an earlier review. It's the song played when he's at the computer and she's on the balcony, and is doubtlessly the best song in the movie -- makign it all the more annoying that by "Hackers 3" it still hasn't made an appearance.

So is the CD worth buying? Well, it all depends. It's a decent CD in its own right, definitely, but if you already own one (or both) of the previous Hackers albums, I wouldn't waste my money on this third carbon copy. If you own none and are looking to make your first Hackers CD purchase, this is as good a choice as any. To own any single Hackers CD is pretty much to own them all.

By "luckyman20" (supply, N.C. United States) - See all my reviews
The selection of artists is good though still throughout all three cd's the balcony song is missing( Massive Attack: Radiation ruling the nation).Still an album where you can pick anyone of the artists and buy the cd and be happy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Techno CD!, May 31, 2000
By Zach (Co Spgs, CO) - See all my reviews
This CD is the bomb! For one of the best movies ever made, Hackers, this is one of the best soundtracks there is. Hackers 1 is good, Hackers 2 is my favorite, and this one is probably my second favorite. It has some of the best variety of techno you can find on one CD!

1.)Moby "Why Can't It Stop" is my #1 favorite on this CD and moby is so great.

2.)BT "Godspeed" is okay but after 2 minutes you get sick of it.

3.)Fluke "Absurd" second favorite song on the album. Fluke is extremely good. Buy their album "Risotto" also if you like this song.

4.)Cloak "Quiet Then" Its ashame this is the worst song on the album but it kinda grows on you after awhile.

5.)Monkey Mafia "I Am Fresh" This is the fastest paced song on the album and worth listening to!

6.)Carl Cox "Phuture 2000" Its okay but its the radio edit so its kinda short.

7.)Orbital "An Fhomhair" Orbital is popular and of course very good, this song is a great listen.

8.)Phunky Data "Fashion" is definately a favorite. Nice and upbeat.

9.)John Lydon "Psychopath" the song I skip over, its just not good

10.)Cirrus "Stop and Panic" Cirrus is the bomb and also buy their cd's and catch them on Fatboy Slim's On The Floor At The Boutique.

11.)Chicane "Strong In Love" you know these guys from the other Hackers CD's. very good!

12.)Brooklyn Bounce "Hack the Planet" Good beat but nothing too special.

13.)Simon Boswell "Diskette" from the movie

14.)Simon Boswell "Launch Divinci" along with 13, it's a short song heard in the movie.

Buy this CD today! Good compilation to have if you are into techno music!
