Editorial Reviews

Whispering Wind Magazine, Dec. 1996
The only video on the market today that explains the intricate movement of the dancer; male and female. With simple, easy to follow instructions, the beginner dancer is shown the foot and body movements that make the dancer seem to "float" over the ground. And of course, what is dancing without the singing. This video goes one step further explaining how to listen to a song so you can dance "on the song" along with an explanation of song structure.

Product Description
Learn American Indians dance at the modern day powwow. Basic steps for men and women, boys and girls.

Also includes how to listen to the music from the powwow drums and learn how to "dance on the song". Instructions by champion dancers Mike Pahsetopah and Nancy Field.

2.0 out of 5 stars Over priced for what you get, January 29, 2000
By A Customer
This Native American dance video introduces itself by stating that the majority of dances would have been handed down from grandparents to children and in the absence of that flourishing tradition this video is intended to be a substitute only it does not deliver. Though informative in some respects such as some comments about Southern dance styles differing from Northern plains in pace. There is precious little actual dance instruction on this video. It is intended to be an introduction video and it does that and no more. However you see tantalizing glimpses of professional dancers at Pow Wow's that if nothing else gives you the incentive to realize how far you have to go to achieve their accomplishment. There are too many commercials for new recordings and the next installment of videos in the series. Which made me suspect that this video was not intended to be a teaching tool at all. However it was not a total flop since my eldest son aged 1 and half enjoyed the drumming and attempted some of the steps along with his Chinese baby sitter. Before the video drew to its rapid close. I suggest avoiding this one and going onto the next in the series

3.0 out of 5 stars O.K. Tutorial, January 11, 2007

This is just a so-so tutorial, the regalia is nice to look at. I was bummed I bought this when I found out our local tribe had it to borrow in their library, but it's interesting if you're too far away from the next PowWow and you need a "fix"
