5.0 out of 5 stars excellent death metal, March 9, 2004
By phobos (Berkeley, CA United States) - See all my reviews
My favorite LS album, which is saying a lot, since everything I've heard by them has been excellent. Part of the reason I like this one so much is that it's death metal, while their more recent stuff is a little more metal-core. It reminds me a little of the German band Atrocity-- technical death metal with a very dark atmosphere. There's something indefinable about the way the music is played that makes it stand out from the hordes. When I listen to it, I can't really pick out what it is that makes the music so good-- some of the arrangements are well-done, with some complexity and originality, but it goes beyond that. I guess it's talent--this album just oozes talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indisputable kings of heaviness. Best of the 90's., April 11, 2002
By Andy Williamson (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
It's nice to see this band gaining new fans as time goes by. My friends and I were enjoying this band in 1990 in high school. That said, it is important for people to understand the major changes that have taken place in this band. The first self-titled disc sounds exactly like Slayer-even better. The second disc delves more into death-metal and this third disc, Inhabit, is, and probably will remain one of the heaviest works of music ever recorded.

Everyone talks about the vocals on this disc. I'm not sure what many of you have been listening to. The very first time I played this album in 1994 I immediately thought "Napalm Death!" The vocals are very similar to ND's vocals and the music is often similar. This disc fits in nicely between ND's later stuff and Cannibal Corpse-ish type stuff. Very intense, often very fast, and very tight. This disc was produced by the 'Trauma Team'-which is actually two members of the now defunct thrash band Believer. I don't understand the criticisms of this disc. Tell me if you've ever heard anything more intense than 'Darkened' or 'Indwelling'? Don't get me wrong, I love the new stuff too (more Pantera-ish), but THIS is where LS made a name for themselves. By the way, the original cover and insert had much better art than this reissue.

A must for metal fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great LS cd and a nice change from their others., June 28, 2004
By Smithy1185 (San Diego, CA USA) - See all my reviews
I had heard from some people that this cd wasn't all that great becuase of the vocal style and that seems to be the big divide that makes people either love it or hate it. When I got it I expected the vocals to be the usual death metal style(ex.Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, etc...) but was surprised to hear that they were different. To me the vocals sound great as do the grinding guitars, bass, and pounding drums. I enjoy this style of LS more than their later sound and think that they did a great job with trying death metal. Anyways this is a must buy for LS fans and for others who dig some great metal.
