Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

If you are looking to consolidate your numerous remote controls, or are looking for a replacement for your lost or broken remote control, the Sony RM-VL900 is a good choice. It sports an ergonomic design (a shapely trapezoid shape) with large, easy-to-see buttons. The glow-in-the-dark keypad will make dark room operations easy to accomplish. LED lights illuminate for confirmation of selected functions, another useful feature while trying to keep your components and players in-use.

The RM-VL900 will control an impressive eight audio/video components, reducing your remote needs from eight to one. The RM-VL900 will control audio and visual components like a TV, DVD, VCR, tape deck, SAT/cable, DBS, DAT and other components. It is compatible with most major brands and is simple to use. In fact, the RM-VL900 is preprogrammed with commands for many brands; a simple input of code number and you are ready to remote. For those brands or models not included, there is a learning function on the remote which will "learn" how to control the device.

After connecting to the audio or video component, you will appreciate the eleven macro control functions (three system control buttons and eight component selection buttons.) The remote will allow a series of up to sixteen consecutive operations per command, making the manipulation of complex set-ups and run-throughs a simple, one-button process. There is a picture-in-picture function which will allow you to keep tabs on two channels at the same time.

The ten meter (thirty-three feet) range should be appropriate for changing the channel or adjusting the volume from across the living room. With a twenty-minute memory back-up, there is plenty of time to replace dead batteries with new batteries. The remote uses four, AA batteries; these batteries will last approximately six months.

Product Description

Even if you've got a TV, 2 VCRs, a satellite system, cable, a CD player, and two other audio components, you can control them all with this single remote. It handles as many as eight devices. The remote has an attractive LCD display, with keys that glow in the dark. There's even a 30-minute memory back up. You won't find a handier or more effective way to manage the remote mess than this all-purpose workhorse.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice display, dated remote, December 2, 2001
By C. Piersol "buzzbo" (California USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I dubiously purchased this remote because it was cheap and I thought it would control practically everything we have. Since we lost the remote to our Sony receiver, I'm overall pleased that this controls the reciever as well as the CD player. Here is a breakdown of the goods and bads.

Great:

* LCD Display tells you which unit it's controlling (I always hated the fact that most universal remotes don't tell you what you're currently controlling!
* Controls all Sony products well. Controls TV and VCR--coding is not a mystery because of the convenient display.
* Cheap

Bummer:

* This was made in '97, so does it not control DVD players.
* I tried both codes for our satellite receiver, it does seem to control it with one exception: There is no equivalent button for OK--i.e. after I enter the channel number or move around the guide, I cannot hit OK to view the channel!!! VERY BAD!

The Bottom Line: Display is a great idea, but if you want to control your DVD or satellite, try something newer!

2.0 out of 5 stars Sony remote should work with Sony DVD players, December 28, 2000
By "wheelesa" (Clifton Park, NY United States) - See all my reviews
Purchased this remote figuring it would eliminate all my Sony remotes (receiver, dvd, cd, tv, etc) However, it doesn't have a dedicated DVD function button, and the AV1/AV2 buttons wouldn't work at all with the Sony DVD player. This is horrible, and makes a perfect universal remote a piece of junk. I love Sony products, but this one is a kicker.

If you don't have a DVD player and don't plan on buying a Sony dvd player, then this remote is great. Easy to program, glow in the dark keys and backlit LCD display is nice. Size, weight, balance is very good.

Couple more notes, did not work with my digital cable box, worked (barely) with my cd player. Gut feeling says this remote was designed/built before DVD players and digital cable box's were popular.

Just my 2 cents.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice remote for basic features, February 19, 2000
By A Customer
I'm in a lucky position of having a Sony TV, VCR, and Receiver. This remote works great for these components, as well as my Kenwood CD player. The base is a bigger than most remotes, which makes it much easier to reach the buttons (You don't need to scrunch your fingers to reach some of them). Contrary to what Sony's website says, this remote does not activate the menu for my Sony VCR, which is a big pain, since most of the functionality for the VCR lies in the menu. Although most of the keys are backlit, the 'Power' and the component selector switches aren't. In fact, the are black, which makes them impossible to distinguish in the dark.
