5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent EP, July 5, 2001
The Washed Up EP by Catch 22 is a great cd, especially for the price. For $4.99 you get 4 songs(actually more, but I'll get into that in a bit) that make this album worthwhile. It all kicks off with Leaving, which is an awesome song with great lyrics and nice music. Next up is Hard to Impress, which is so good, that it even made it over to C22's new album, Alone in a Crowd. Next is their awesome cover of American Pie, which is equal parts ska, punk, and even hardcore. Next up is the final track, called The Death of My Blood is Your Indulgence, but this song is just a joke as there are no real lyrics. Now you may think this is the end of the album but if you fast foward until the 15 minute point or so, you'll get 3 awesome bonus tracks which are live versions of 3 of their best songs. First is On and On and On which is done awesome, followed by an altered version of Kristina She Don't Know I Exist. The song is done hardcore style, and excludes the solos of almost every instrument, but it is still awesome. The album then closes with an awesome live performance of 9mm and a 3 Piece Suit. It's done super fast and so awesome. All in all, pick up this album, you won't regret it, especially for the value.

4.0 out of 5 stars A bit less than Keasbey Nights, February 22, 2000
By "theangryoriental" (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA) - See all my reviews
I realize that Catch 22 will have a slightly different sound now that their lead singer and guitarist have been replaced, but what makes them special is still there. Still has fast, inventive horn melodies. As some of the previous reviewers have mentioned, I miss the soft, acoustic guitar found in Keasbey Nights. The new guitars are good, but it's one step more toward other dime a dozen punk band guitars. The songs are still first rate, though I miss Tomas a bit. The live songs at the end are fantastic, and the cover of American Pie is great. Overall, a bargain, and a must-have of fans of the first album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Super Dee Dooper, January 30, 2000
By Drew Barrett (Roanoke, VA. 24018) - See all my reviews
The songs on this album are great. They have gotten a bit louder than the songs on Keasbey Nights, but they have in no way gone more towards being "noise". The horn part in Hard to Impress is one of my favorite horn parts of theirs, it has certain kind of power and/or oomph, it dominates, or commands. After seeing their live show a little while ago, it seems that a lot of the songs off the upcoming album are going to be like that, which is spiffy. For those who aren't able to figure this out on their own, "The Death of my Blood is Your Indulgence" is a joke, not a serious song. Leaving is okay, but it doesn't seem to do for me what Catch 22 has done with their other songs. Although I liked hearing the three live songs at the end of the CD, the recording quality on them is awful. It sounds as though it were recorded from inside a metal garbage can, or something. The live version of Kristina She Don't Know I Exist has made a lot of people mad, but I find it quite entertaining, especially the hardcore part towards the end. Don't judge the upcoming album by what you hear on here, in addition to the louder songs with the dominant horn parts, they have a few really nice dance songs coming up. All in all, a good EP, I would say it needs to be longer, but then it wouldn't really be an EP...
