5.0 out of 5 stars DAY OF THE DEAD, November 16, 1999
By A Customer
If you liked GLENN's work in the MISFITS then you'll probably like SAMHAIN. Escpecially if you didn't get into EARTH A.D. Every song on NOVEMBER-COMING-FIRE could have been performed by the MISFITS (some of them were ie; HALLOWEEN II as well as HORROR BIZ on the INITIUM album & ALL HELL on the FINAL DESCENT album), even though GLENN has stated the reason he broke up the MISFITS is because he wanted to play stuff that JERRY & DOYLE couldn't play. He was also frustrated with the ever changing lineups of the MISFITS but this happened even in SAMHAIN & DANZIG as well. With SAMHAIN, DANZIG broke away from the horror movie influence of the MISFITS & chose more of a literal horror. Still using morbid & horrific influence but not specifically dealing with horror on the screen. What ever his influence these songs work very well, dark & moody being the theme. The album paints a surreal- morbid-unholy picture of doom. Pick this up along with INITIUM & FINAL DESCENT & be prepared for the long awaited box set as well. Loaded with unreleased material & material no longer available as well as a video the SAMHAIN BOXSET will be a must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let the day begin., February 6, 2002

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: November-Coming-Fire (Audio CD)
Of all the splendid works by this incredible band, NOVEMBER COMING FIRE stands as Samhain's "essential" record. Absolutely flawless, it boasts the best production and the most accomplished playing of any of their albums to date, as well as the finest group of songs Glenn Danzig has ever put to record.

NOVEMBER COMING FIRE is a transitional record for a transitional band. Not quite the high-sheen gloss of American Records' DANZIG, but certainly leaps and bounds ahead of the homemade sound of the Misfits, NOVEMBER COMING FIRE found Samhain, and Danzig, at their peak. From the opening instrumental of "Diabolos '88," the listener knows they're in for an incredible, dark ride. The band tears through your speakers with the one-two punch of "In My Grip" and "Mother of Mercy" before unveiling what can now be viewed in retrospect as the first hint of the "DANZIG" sound, "To Walk the Night." Featuring sweeping vocals and crashing guitars, this track nonetheless maintains the darkness unique to Samhain and stands as one of the highlights of this, their finest moment. But the record's only halfway through. "Let the Day Begin" feels like the unexpected second drop on the roller coaster and the listener is treated to another torrent of incredible tracks: the best yet of the Misfits updates, "Halloween II," the quintessential title track, and the hilarious twisted "Human Pony Girl," a sort of deformed sister to the Misfits' "Angelf***."

NOVEMBER COMING FIRE represents all that is Halloween, and more importantly, the best that Samhain has to offer. And that's saying a lot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool as Hell!, November 29, 1999
By William McGrath (Des Moines, Iowa) - See all my reviews
November Coming Fire is quintessential Glenn Danzig. The tones of the songs are dark and moody, but Glenn still retains the most powerful voice in metal or punk or goth or whatever other style he chooses to perform. In my opinion, the two highlight songs are 'Mother of Mercy' and 'To Walk the Night.' Any fan of The Misfits or Danzig will truly love these dark classics.
