Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

High-definition television has arrived! The Sony FD Trinitron makes use of technological advances that will change the way you look at TV. They function beautifully with the analog television broadcasts of today and prepare the way for the digital TV broadcasts of tomorrow.

Sony's first digital high-definition television (HDTV) establishes a new benchmark in picture performance no matter what you're watching or how you're watching it. During the transition from conventional to digital broadcasting, HDTV receivers will need to handle both high-definition pictures (with up to 1,080 scanning lines) as well as the existing broadcast standard for today's television (which originate with only 480 visible scanning lines). This Sony HDTV bridges the gap by enhancing conventional TV pictures by doubling the number of active scanning lines--and doubling the number of pixels on each scanning line.

Based upon an analysis of thousands of HDTV picture patterns, Sony's Digital Reality Creation (DRC) replaces the normal NTSC patterns with their correct high-definition counterparts. DRC circuitry provides four times the total picture density, so even conventional TV broadcasts have the apparent solidity of HDTV!

Product Description

You can receive the benefits of improved digital reception without giving up the flexibility of analog. The high resolution flat screen gives an incredible depth of focus and a brighter more detailed picture. Picture in a Picture means you never have to wonder if something better is playing on another channel. Preview it on a split screen.High Focus Electron Gun Flat-screen CRT's demand incredible depth-of-focus. To accomplish this, Sony increased the focal length of the electron gun by 30%. Fine Pitch Aperture Grille Vertical Slits Stretch without interruption from the top of the screen to the bottom for a brighter, more vivid picture. The FD Trinitron picture tube used a new flat APERTURE GRILLE with higher tension, more slits and closer spacing between the slits (finer pitch) resulting in outstanding image detail and clarity. 3D Digital Comb Filter Improves your picture by comparing successive scan lines and lines of successive video frames, to reduce dot-crawl and cross-color distortion more effectively than ever. Dynamic Picture Circuitry Processor continually adjusts dynamic range to match full light-to-dark values. Dynamic Focus Circuitry maintains big-screen focusing accuracy from corner to corner. Velocity Modulation Scanning sharpens picture definition by varying the beam scanning rate to give every object a sharp, clean edge. Magnetic Quadra Pole reduces beam spot distortion and improves corner-to-corner focus, as well as picture sharpness.

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful!, January 31, 2003
By A Customer
We initially were purchasing a cheaper tv...Well that was until we were educated by tweeter. This Television is a beauty...make no mistake!! The picture is clear, crisp and concise. Set up was not as I read in previous reviews as being easy, it was anything but easy. But then we(my husband and I) are not techo buffs. My son has since played with it and is finally set up perfectly. we love it and that says alot because i am definately not a couch potatoe...but not I cant wait to get home to veg out on the couch with my remote in hand....Incidently we also purchased the sony 5 disc progressive scanner dvd/cd player and love it too

5.0 out of 5 stars The best TV Ever, September 29, 2001
By "donsaxena" (Huntsville, AL) - See all my reviews
This TV is excellent. I watch HDTV movie channels through Dish Network and the picture is incredible. Compared to the huge projection TV's this TV's picture is unbeatable. It compacts 1080 lines into a space of 34 inches as opposed to 64 or another big screen size. This tv makes going to the movies obsolete.
