Product Description

Sony Corporation is proud to introduce its TCM-50DV Pressman Auto Reverse Portable Cassette Recorder. Auto Reverse provides uninterrupted recording and playback of both cassette sides, with no need to turn tape over. Double Recording Time gives you the option of recording on a standard cassette at either normal speed or half the normal speed, for extended recording or dictation sessions. Clear Voice sound system enhances voice quality during recording and playback for greater clarity. Flat Microphone provides convenient recording versatility in various situations. Voice Operated Recording (VOR) activates the recorder only when audible sound is present, conserving tape and eliminating soundless passages. Playback Speed Control lets you adjust playback speed faster or slower than normal, for easier review and editing of recorded information. 3 LED Battery Level Warning System confirms battery level and alerts the user of low battery power with a flashing amber LED. 3-Digit Tape Counter makes it easy to find a specific location on the tape for rapid access and editing. Metal Lid provides added durability. Carrying Strap is a secure, convenient way to transport the unit. Microphone Jack allows connection of an external microphone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Available, March 14, 2000
Wow! I cannot say enough about the features that are on this recorder. Every thing that I can ask for in a hand held full size cassett recorder / player. The variable speed is excellent for long lectures or events. On a standard 90 minute tape you can set the recorder at half speed and get 3 hours on it! Good quality play back, voice activated, tape counter, mic / phone jacks, AC/DC, etc. My only concern is the long term quality - made in China verses Japan. For the money impossible to beat this deal. So good that my wife took it away and uses it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Lacks one important connector: motor-control plug, February 21, 2003
By A Customer
I've been pulling my hair trying to find a cassette recorder with two features:

-Auto-reverse
-Pause-control plug (for microphones with a record/pause switch).

So far, all auto-reverse models I found lack this plug.
The only currently produced tape recorder I was able to find with a "pause control" (aka Mic remote control) plug next to the mic-in is the Casio TP-7, but it lacks a motor/pause control plug.

This is a note to manufacturers, why remove a useful feature for those of us who like control the recording from the mic, or use it to record phone calls (with a third party automatic recording control that starts the recording when the phone is in use)?.
