The Freud Difference
Freud manufactures some of the most innovative, technologically advanced saw blades in the world. To ensure that the highest quality products meet the toughest design standards, Freud owns and operates six manufacturing facilities in Western Europe. Freud is one of the few manufacturers of woodworking tools in the world that produces its own MicroGrain carbide with titanium, called TiCo -- a combination of titanium and cobalt. Freud develops different types of carbide for each application to maximize the cutting life and performance of the tool; and Freud also operates one of the most modern product development research centers in Europe. By overseeing the entire manufacturing process from start to finish, Freud guarantees some of the highest quality, most advanced products in the industry.

About Freud Industrial Blades
Freud’s industrial series blades were designed for the serious woodworker. Available in a variety of styles for different applications, LU blades feature thick carbide tips, precision-tensioned bodies found in every Freud quality blade. Some LU blades include a red Teflon coating that helps reduce friction, heat build-up, and gumming -- which prolongs the life of the blade.

About this Ripping Saw Blade
The Freud ultimate wood rip saw blade is an ideal blade in times where the speed of cutting is less important than cut smoothness. Leaving an excellent finish cut when ripping hardwood and softwood, the blade also features a Perma-Shield coating to reduce friction, and has a 2-tooth carbide tip. The thick MicroGrain carbide tips are laser-cut for precision, and they feature expansion slots for kickback reduction. With this ultimate ripping blade, there is no need for stabilizers.

Applications
This blade gives smooth, fast rips in hardwoods and softwoods. The combination of a rigid blade body and razor sharp flat top carbide teeth will provide a "glue line" precision cut. This blade is precision balanced and can be used in gang-rip operations.

Key Tech Specs:

  • 5/8-inch arbor
  • 3/4-inch minimum depth of cut
  • 2-3/4-inch maximum depth of cut

Warranty
This blade is covered by Freud's limited lifetime warranty.

Product Description

For smooth, fast ripping. The industry standard for ripping hard and soft woods from 3/4" to 2-3/4" thick. Laser-cut anti-vibration slots drastically reduce vibration and sideways
movement in the cut, extending blade life and giving a crisp, swirl-free finish.

Application-specific super micrograin carbide teeth are 50-60% larger than standard carbide teeth and allow for multiple re-sharpenings. Anti-vibration technology eliminates sideways movement against the material for a quieter, smoother cut with a superior finish and long cutting life. Laser-cut heat expansion slots allow the blade to expand during use to keep the cut true and straight. Permanent red Teflon coating prevents rust and guarantees less working friction and resin adhesion. Precision-tensioned blade bodies made of high strength
steel (4045 Rc) stay flat and true throughout years of service. Tri-metal brazing technique produces strong, impact resistant bond between carbide teeth and steel blade body.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great blade but..., October 19, 2000
This is an awesome blade as far as cutting performance goes. It is very sharp and cuts very well. The teflon coating really works to alleviate binding and helps it to run cooler. The teeth are nice and beefy for resharpening. The only thing I don't like is that the carbide is either ground too sharp or it's too brittle. I don't really know. What I do know is that I keep finding chips on the teeth when I know for a fact no foriegn material has been passed through. Nails, staples etc. This has happened with several Freud blades in my unisaw. I recommend the Forrest woodworker 2 for ripping. They don't have the teflon coating but they seem to hold up better over the long haul.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great rip blade, August 25, 2006
By G. Elore (Munising, Michigan United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
A lot of the projects I build require edge gluing boards to make wider panels. In the past my normal technique would be to rip the boards to a uniform width and the run them through the jointer to get a good enough edge for a nearly invisible glue line.

This blade is advertised to make glue line rip cuts and it does just that. I'm able to make rip cuts in thick hardwood that require no further preparation prior to glue up. That includes some 13/16 maple that I just used for a dovetailed blanket chest. That makes for a nice time saver.

Bottom line; If you do a lot of ripping, this blade is definitely worth the investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great rip blade at a good price!, March 7, 2006
We are using this blade in a 10" portable table saw. It is super-quiet and leaves a nice, clean edge. It's amazing how much better a saw can perform with a good blade in it. The motor doesn't bog down even when cutting thicker stock, and the blade powers right through the material. Definitely not a thin-kerf blade.
