4.0 out of 5 stars A Short Note: Same as the SubPop release, March 23, 2001
By Matt McGrath (Carnegie, PA) - See all my reviews
If you casually glance the track list for this release and "The Way of the Vaselines" (released by SubPop in the U.S.)you will notice they are exactly the same (except for some minor title differentiations.) This is basically a more expensive version, so I can't really reccomend it over the SubPop version.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scotland's greatest ever band, May 22, 2001
By Simon (MANSFIELD,, NOTTINGHAMSHIRE, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
For anyone wondering which Vaselines compilation contains the correct song titles, I can assure them it's this one. This is wonderful collection featuring their album 'Dum Dum' plus b-sides etc. 'Son of a Gun' and 'Molly's Lips' are far superior to the Nirvana versions (although this compilation would probably not exist without them) but anyone expecting Nirvana type punk rock action are in for a bit of a shock, the Vaselines sound like besotted but completely testosterone free rock and roll kids, using their music as revenge against their parents who complain about their clothes and make them go to church every Sunday. The lyrics are constantly hilarious as Eugene and Frances, with their tongues planted firmly in their cheeks examine subjects like sex, the rock and roll lifestyle and religion. The first line of 'Sex Sux' is the band in a nutshell: 'I was born of original sin / from a two timin' hustlin' virgin' - brilliant, clever, wilfully offensive but still only to sanctimonious bores and the sound of people enjoying rock and roll too much to care what anyone else thinks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good, June 14, 2000
By A Customer
This is a marvellous collection although the complete history is more complete. Many people will only know of the Vaselines as demonstrated by Kurt Cobain of Nirvana on the MTV Unplugged CD.
