4.0 out of 5 stars Music that Crosses Borders, May 3, 2002
By "lighting_queen" (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews
I was introduced to "Bleibt Alles Anders" when I was living in Israel this last fall. Although I am not familiar with Groenemeyer's other albums, if they are anything like this one, they're worth a listen. Throughout this album, Groenemeyer makes good use of a variety of musical styles--punchy rock with gravelly guitar riffs, a touch of techno, folk, and classic string arrangements. My favorite track has to be "Schmetterlinge im Eis" (Butterfly on Ice). Groenemeyer uses a simple note pattern, which turns into a theme and variation--elegant and beautiful. Typical of his style, this song is surprising, delivering a quiet, sad love song in a way that avoids cliches and yet delivers an almost universal emotion--love unrequited. Groenemeyer uses lyrics in unusual, creative ways that have the ability to touch listeners from all over the world.

His work is an excellent expression of music as an universal language--which is exactly how I believe God created it to be. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally Awesome, March 6, 2001
By "iampacrat" (Unity Township, PA USA) - See all my reviews
In our German books at school, there are several stories about teens going to rock concerts or throwing parties, and many times the music is Groenemeyer's. After 4 years of begging, my teacher finally found the "Bleibt Alles Anders" music video for my class to watch. I immediately fell in love with the song and, thanks to Napster, have been able to listen to almost all of the songs on this CD. I recommend it to everyone!! The title track, with it's crescendoing rock beat and powerful sound, is by far my favorite. Now that I know I can buy the CD (thank you Amazon!), it's the first thing I'm going to buy with my birthday money.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is one AMAZING album!!, December 6, 2000
It is unfortunate that American listeners do not get exposure to foreign language albums unless you are a Ricky Martin fan or you are taking a foreign language in school. Herbert Groenemeyer is one of Germany's best songwriters/performers. "Bleibt alles anders" is probably his best record to date. The powerhouse tracks of the album are "Nach mir" and "Bleibt alles anders," which are the first two tracks of the CD. The subtle use of an orchestra in these tracks as well as the rest of the album literally makes the music float. "Fanatisch" is sheer brilliance. If you understand some German, all the better. The subjects Groenemeyer covers in the lyrics range from creepy "Fanatisch, to silly "Selbstmitleid," to the deeply emotional "Schmetterlinge im Eis" and "Ich dreh mich um dich." However, if you do not understand German, the effect of the album and its power are not lessened by the language barrier. If there is a weakness to be found on this album it may be "Neue Welt," but regardless, I cannot recommend this album more fervently. It's a brilliant work all around.
