Probably the best Turkish CD in years..., September 21, 1999
By A Customer
Tarkan is not a new artist in Turkey, but he suddenly gained the world's attention in 1998 and 1999 with the hit single Simarik (the kiss). Simarik is the biggest hit from this album, (it is the song where he kisses both left and right) but other singles have been or will be released (Bu gece, Olurum sana). To describe this music as anything other than Turkish would be silly. However, it is very modern Turkish and the sound is what many trendy western dance acts would kill to create. Tarkan combines arabic rythms (very similar to latin rythms) with heavy drum machines, he uses traditional Turkish and modern western instruments together and he sings both arabic and western scales well. He also writes most of his songs himself. The songs are in Turkish language and should be included in the little booklet (if you can understand any of it). It is not just a dance album although the hit singles are dance numbers. Olurum sana includes a couple of strong, intense and powerful ballads which will make your heart long for Turkey in no time... When I first heard of Tarkan I was in Paris, September 1998. I bought the album then and it soon grew to be my favorite CD. Now, one year later, it still is! hwj, NZ 1999.
