Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Although this group is partially comprised of Silicon Valley venture capitalists--as evidenced by the CD's title--the music is a throwback to the '60s Haight-Ashbury scene, when making it in mainstream (read: rat race) society was the last thing on anyone's mind. There were other things in people's minds at the time. Unfortunately for the Flying Other Brothers, the two worlds still don't mesh very well. There are spirited attempts at capturing the essence of West Coast psychedelic rock, such as the midtempo ballad "Your Shoulder," which could have been written by the Velvet Underground and Nico if they were on happy drugs. The best moment on the CD is "Six Days on the Road," which convincingly recalls the percolating side of the Grateful Dead circa "Truckin'." Not a bad debut, but one hopes the Flying Other Brothers decide to spend less time making deals in the penthouse suite and more time practicing in the basement. --Michael Wells

5.0 out of 5 stars IPO Soars, January 24, 2000
By A Customer
Intriguing originals and fine covers. A smorgasbord of smiles. Impeccably tasteful and tasty -- except for the possible allusion to support for the current administration suggested by the acronym "FOB." But where is "Vegetable Freedom?"

5.0 out of 5 stars As always, the FOBs rock!, October 11, 1999
By customer (New York City) - See all my reviews
Having "followed" the band from the early days, I am continually impressed by the growing depth of style, content, and quality of its music. This is especially evident in the FOBs growing library of original tunes and their combination of '60s rock with a more modern, less psychedelic, twist. Cover songs are outstanding, though they are more tributes to the original artists than remakes. Though I don't disagree that the band members should "keep their day jobs", their obvious enthusiasm for music and performing, which is slightly lost in the recording, shines through to make this a truly great first album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good stuff!, October 27, 1999
By A Customer
I am playing this disc 24 hours a day for my mother who has been in a coma for almost a year. I honestly expect her to come around after hearing enough FOB magic.

And it certainly isn't music. True basement band stylie, need to go back to the woodshed and learn to play.

1.0 out of 5 stars Are you kidding me?
A greatful dead knock off band led by a venture capitalist. This must be some sort of sick joke.
