5.0 out of 5 stars Harder then A Place in the Sun, but really good, March 9, 2000
Lit fans everywhere have been hearing songs off A Place in the Sun on the radio. Some, like Ziplock and Miserable, have made it on the infamous TRL. So its not suprising that Lit has gained a lot more fans, followers of good music and teenyboppers alike. However, these fans have furthered their Lit obsession by going out and buying Tripping the Light Fantastic. Being that it was re-released it seemed more noticible to the general public and ultimately, more of Lit's new fans bought it. Tripping the Light Fantastic surprised many of Lit's new followers. It's harsher sound was shocking compared to the melodies and mellow lyrics of A Place in the Sun. At first, it seemed that Lit had become a totally different band with their second album, much lighter and happier, but still sell-outs. Actually, that's not true. Upon listening to Tripping the Light Fantastic repeatedly, fans can realize that many things are the same about the two CDs, from the way the accoustic guitar and base guitar are used to the band's love of old cars, esp. Cadillacs. The idea of the band being sell-outs was totally disproven after going to a Lit concert March 1 and seeing the guys perform. (They were great) So, Lit fans, be not afraid of Tripping the Light Fantastic. It will become just as good, if not better, then A Place in the Sun once you recognize the differences. And if you don't have A Place in the Sun yet, be sure to pick that up too. Lit is a great band that deserves to be recognized, and you won't be disappointed. to the band's love

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it and Give it Time, June 11, 2000
I say that because, if you're a fan of their RCA debut, A Place In the Sun, this one's gonna need time to grow on you. But nonetheless, it's awesome! Nearly everything is heavier here, with perhaps the exception of "Bitter." That track was the only single released off this album, and it's maybe the only one that echoes Lit's sound today. If you really compare the two CDs, Lit definitely hasn't done a 360. They've just evolved from whatever angst was plaguing them during that time. Anyway, this is an AWESOME CD that you won't regret buying. If you do feel that after the first listen, please give it time to grow on you. It will!

4.0 out of 5 stars Different sound, June 22, 2000
By "duffman121" (Fort Myers, FL) - See all my reviews
Buying this album after "Place In the Sun", I was quite shocked with the initial difference I heard. After a listen or 2 more though, I noticed that it wasn't a DIFFERENT sound, but more of a RAWER sound. A Jay's singing improved quite a bit between this album and "Place In the Sun", but the rawness of his voice on this album is pretty damn cool too. Some tunes that stand out for me are "Habib" and "Bitter". I gave it 4 stars, cause I feel they have improved and grown musically as a band since this album, but it's still a great cd. Just keep in mind that the sound isn't quite the same as "Place", but it's still got that Lit attitude. Worth the buy.
