Product Description

Editorial Review
Endorsed by three-time Olympic gold medalist Josh Davis as "the best way to learn to swim," this is an ingenious system designed for 2-to-3-year-olds who weigh between 20 and 35 pounds. Under adult supervision, youngsters sandwich themselves between two yellow foam plates that feature Velcro shoulder straps and slide toggles for adjustable fit. The ingenuity is in the composition of those foam plates: They're each composed of nine slices of foam. As a child's swimming skills increase with time, these float pads can be removed one by one; soon kids will be dog-paddling with the best of 'em--and all by themselves! If it's not a perfect substitute for swimming lessons from a qualified instructor, the Safe T. Seal Little Swimr Swim Trainer does provide a wonderful way for kids to gain confidence in the water. --Tony Mason

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Swim Aid, September 4, 2001
By A Customer
Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
The Swim Trainer is an easy on easy off swimming aid that the child steps into and then velcros at the shoulders and tightens on the sides. The front and back pouch have 9 remomovable bouyancy pads that can be taken out (without the child even knowing) as the childs swimming ability increases.

This is a great learning to swim tool. Both my children have used it since they were about 20 months old and it has been a total success with building their confidence in the water.

My youngest who is 2 and weighs about 24 lbs had some trouble with balancing and was tipping over. We remedied this problem by removing one of the 9 removalble pads in the front of the trainer and never had another problem.

Another bonus with this swim trainer is that the children have free movement of their arms (unlike floaties) so they learn to paddle.

I would recommend this to anyone with a child learning to swim.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the pool!, January 30, 2002
By A Customer
Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
We started my son with a swim sweater(tube) when he was 2, graduated to the small litte swimmer (yellow) when he was 3, the medium (green)little swimmer at 4. He's 5 now and can swim without the device. The motions he used with the swimmer to get around the pool taught him to swim without lessons. He still can't touch the bottom of the pool, but he's got the large swimmer (purple) so he can play longer in the pool without getting tired.

The little swimmer requires some upper body strength so if your tike is having problems keeping upright, start with the swim sweater. The tube is under the child's arms and sits higher in the water.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great teaching device, August 19, 2004
By Tom (Mountain View, CA USA) - See all my reviews
Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
My daughter started with this a year ago and is doing great. The device really helps children build confidence and independence in the water, which essential in learning to swim. Unlike rings and devices that go fit around arms, the Swim Trainer does not restrict arm movement, which is essential to learning to balance and swim.

Tipping Over: Some reviewers comment that their children lose their balance in the Swim Trainer and go face down in the water. Initially you still have to be there and help your child with balance until they can do it alone--learning to balance and control your body is an important first step in swimming, just as with walking. The point when the child can balance most of the time leads to confidence and independence ("Do it myself!"). Rings and flotation devices that fit on the arms will make it much easier for the child to balance, but the child therefore won't learn to swim as quickly. Also, most rings and arms flotation devices are inflatable and often prohibited by swimming clubs and public pools.
