Product Description

Here's a CD for everyone who has been waiting for Fr. Stan to sing the great hymns of our Catholic faith. Featuring a variety of musical styles, Fr. Stan adds his inspirational and tasteful arrangements to these all time favorites with a few awesome surprises. This CD features the incredible Celtic sounds of the high and low whistles and ullian pipes played by Jerry O'Sullivan. Fr. Stan is also accompanied by Marianne Mastropolo on piano, Pete Scatt on drums, Daniel diSilva on various percussions, Joe Stelluti on soprano saxophone and Dr. Phil Mango on trumpet. The result is a full range of moods and styles: classical jazz, Celtic, folk, latin jazz, world beat, rap, orchestral and contemporary. The listener will be blessed with a fresh and refreshing musical experience rooted in the depth and beauty of Catholic tradition, disposing one to prayer and peace. It is a "must have" for those who seek Christ through the inspiring sound of music and find comfort in the traditional lyrics of our Christian heritage.

In the words of Fr. Stan, "PRAY, PRAY, PRAY my sisters and brothers that this album touches the hearts and souls of all those in need of Christ's healing comfort and love. And that it all may be for the glory and praise of our Lord, Jesus Christ."

5.0 out of 5 stars In Christ, all things are new!, November 23, 1999
By A Customer
This collection of traditional hymns is breathtaking in its scope. The arrangements are fresh, the musical styles are varied and the performances are fun, poignant and full of surprises. I love the use of such non-traditional instruments as the whistle, ullian pipes and various percussions. There's jazz, rap, Celtic and folk all represented here with professional musical precision that's a joy to behold. And the messages are "tried and true". It's also nice to see so many songs for Mary, Our Blessed Mother included in this collection. Bravo, Fr. Stan for another great album!

5.0 out of 5 stars tongues of fire!, December 9, 1999
By KENNETH J. CRAWFORD (Northern United States) - See all my reviews
I first heard of Father Stan Fortuna from his appearances of EWTN's Life on the Rock. There I heard samples from this CD, live. It is contemporary faith of our fathers! It is the good catholic music we grew up with--strong renditions with a James Taylor type delivery. His vocals are clear and clean, an obvious blessing. This is a must have CD for all ages. The best part of purchasing this CD is that the profits are destined to make a difference in the lives of everyday people. The work as a whole is beneficial to all who buy it, hear it, and benefit from it. What a wonderful treasure Father Stan Fortuna is to the Catholic church.

4.0 out of 5 stars How Can I Keep From Singing Along With Fr. Stan !, December 18, 1999
By CHARLIE K. (Long Island, New York - USA) - See all my reviews
Traditional Catholic Hymns provides music that soothes me with creative arrangements and talented performances. From a beautiful accapella rendition of the "The water Is Wide" where Fr. Stan displays his vocal ability to an uplifting, jazzy/rap version of "Come Holy Ghost" in which Father Stan demonstrates his talent on the fretless bass, the listener is plesantly surprised by the familairity of these traditional hymns in artistic and respectful arrangements.

Father Stan Fortuna uses his God given musical talents to help others less fortunate. All proceeds go toward the Community of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal's hands-on work with the poor! This is truly a WIN-WIN CD - Buy several - give them to friends!

1.0 out of 5 stars Better title:"UNtraditional hymns"
The title for this album is very misleading. A majority of the songs aren't even traditional catholic hymns. The musical arrangements make the music sound New-Agey and cutesy.
