Product Description

Amazon.com Review
Erathia is in turmoil following the murder of King Nicholas Gryphonheart. Would-be rulers have divided his once-peaceful kingdom, warring against each other for gold, supplies, and--above all--power. All this and more takes place within Heroes of Might and Magic 3, an easy-to-play game clearly designed for serious fantasy gamers.

With a huge roster of heroes, monsters, and artifacts, you control your personal corner of Erathia. The heroes go out to accumulate treasure and wipe out monsters on your behalf. In the meantime, you improve your land holdings, further strengthening your tactical position.

Quick thinking and shrewd tactical judgment are required to come out on top in this intrigue- and danger-filled world. Like many current strategy games, players do not have to settle for merely besting a computer. Network and online play are available for those wishing to test their mettle against a live opponent.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is accessible to less serious gamers (those who don't wish to determine whether an orc can beat a power lich), but it provides combat statistics and a wealth of information to hard-core number crunchers. This admirable flexibility makes it a game that will appeal to anyone interested in sword-and-sorcery gaming. --Alyx Dellamonica

Amazon.com Product Description
Receiving news of her father's death, Catherine Ironfist, Queen of Enroth, sails for Erathia to attend her father's funeral. Fearing the worst, she assembles a military fleet as her escort. Arriving on the coast of Erathia, Catherine finds an allied wizard's tower, devastated from battle and abandoned, and learns Erathia is falling to its enemies. Mustering local armies, Catherine marches to Erathia's capitol, restoring lost land along the way. While rescuing Erathia's besieged capitol, Catherine discovers her father was poisoned with a goblet of wine. Setting herself up as queen, Catherine goes to war to restore Erathia's borders and discover her father's murderer. In the course of war, in an attempt to counter Catherine's recent successes, her enemies resurrect her buried father as an undead "lich" and make him general of their armies.

In Heroes III, you control the actions of heroes to complete mission objectives in a variety of conflicts taking place in the mythical land of Erathia. As heroes travel across the land with their armies, they can explore, seek artifacts, and find treasure, as well as lead their armies into battle. Towns can also have armies garrisoned for their defense and act as centers for recruitment, the learning of magic spells, and trading. Towns you conquer become part of your territory. You may develop your towns to provide yourself with offensive, defensive, and logistical advantages.

Missions can be self-contained single scenarios, linked together into multiscenario campaigns, or played as multiplayer scenarios against other human players across a network. While a vast array of predesigned scenarios come with the game, you can also create your own using the Map Editor tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best strategy game around., January 9, 2000
By A. Thorpe "Mac Gamer" (Olivette, Missouri United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Since Christmas, my father, brother, and I have been taking turns playing this nearly every day. The graphics are gorgeous, especially the towns, and combat options are much more diverse and varied than HOMM2. The turn based aspect means that your moves aren't rushed, and multiplayer supports hotseat play on one system. No complaints whatsoever.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Best, January 19, 2000
By rogue27 (The Shores of Lake Superior) - See all my reviews
I can see no reason why anyone should not buy this game. It is great. It is turn-based strategy at it's best. Ever since King's Bounty, games in this series have gotten better and better. This game has unlimited replayability due to it's random nature and multiplayer capabilities. In fact, you can multiplayer with just one computer and take turns if you don't want to play online. This game has gotten hours of play every day since I got it, and I don't see anyone getting bored with it anytime soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heroes 3 Of Might and Magic, May 22, 2002
By A Gal (India) - See all my reviews
This is the best turn based strategy game I've played so far. I simply love this game. Earlier I had read the review of the game Age of wonders on Amazon.com and downloaded its demo. To tell the truth I was not much impressed with the game, especially since it was turn based. But this game is really addictive and I thank my stars for the day I bought this game as I was in two minds whether to buy it or not, one - because it was yet another turn based strategy, two - because the game was being sold for a very very low price here in India (the pack also included the expansion - Armageddon's Blade).
Well this game is very well made. The good things about this game are plenty. I just love the campaigns and the vast number of scenarios available to play. Turn based system is pretty fast in this game and the best part about this game is the turn based combat. Auto-combat is cool but is not as great fun as manual combat. Spells available for combat are plenty and fun to cast. Chain lightning, Death Ripple, Frost Ring and Clone are a few spells that are fun to watch.
The graphics in the game are cool. The numbers of creatures available in the game are numerous, each with its own special ability and I enjoyed them very much during game play. The monsters are a wonderful work of art. My favorite creatures in the game are many. The Fire Elementals are the best. I love the way they cover distance. The Scorpicores are absolutely frightening to look at. They create a sense of terror. The Gorgons, Unicorns, Thunderbirds, Cyclops Kings and the Liches are other rare beauties. It is a real pleasure to watch them. The Zealots are really creepy to look at and the Harpies are equally weird. I love the way Efreet Sultans attack their enemies. The Master Genies, Arch Devils and Arch Angels are equally cool to watch.
The Heroes available in the game are numerous and it is fun to build up their skills. The game is so cool that u just need a map with a group of enemies and creatures scattered on random locations to have fun. I think that's a plus point. The storyline in the game just adds more fun to the whole thing. On the whole the game is really neat and I've had many fun filled hours of play thanks to Jon Van Caneghem and group.
5 Stars!
