Biography

Thursday have always been difficult to categorize. Although they famously rose out of New Brunswick, New Jersey’s basement culture they’ve always been far too cerebral to be considered a traditional hardcore band. Over their eleven-year career they’ve toured with everyone from the Cure to Cursive, but have retained an inherent aggressiveness that can only come from being weaned on similarly… Read more in Amazon's Thursday Store

5.0 out of 5 stars My ohh my, March 29, 2002
By "punkrawker1738" (Las Vegas, Nevada United States) - See all my reviews
Thursday is what you call a band.

In my opinion, "Waiting" is just as good as "Full Collapse." I love to hear where a band got it's sound from.

"Waiting" is filled with more post-hardcore sounds, and not as many screams as "Full Collapse." If the background screams turned you off of their second cd, you might want to check this one out. Some highlights of the cd are "Porecelain", "This Side of Brightness" (which you can download off of their MP3.com website), and "Dying in New Brunswick." Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars we form communities only to use them as exclusionary devices, August 18, 2002
By "victorious_free_spirit" (new port richey, fl United States) - See all my reviews
by now you have probably heard the band thursday, who are from the flourishing new jersey scene. they're one of the many fresh new faces to rise with the whole "emo explosion" *rolls eyes* but not ALL of the band who are being tagged with the label "emo" are bad. for the purists, much of the mainstream bands are disregarded and left to the MTV crowd to eat up and call their own. it's considered "not cool" to like a band that has appeared in a mag, is on the radio or tv. PUT ALL THAT BEHIND YOU.

i would probably describe this album, and thursday, as melodic post-hardcore. one of the first things i noticed about this album is it is lyrically influenced by the band joy division (see the track ian curtis) which is a favorite of singer/songwriter geoff rickly. the style on this album differs from full collapse. for one it is more lo-fi sounding and not quite as heavy but equally amazing. keep in mind that the members were still learning their instruments during 'waiting' but this is a good album to document the tremendous amount of growth between the two records. i can't wait to see what they put out next.

one cannot deny that amidst all the generic trendy screamo/pop-punk bands thursday have the greatest, most thought provoking, lyrics of them all. probably my favorite track is 'where the circle ends'. who would of known a song with spoken words put to a mellow melody could possibly be that powerful? in addition to the wonderfully crafted poetic-like lyrics i also enjoy the music technique they use where they draw the listener in by slowly building the suspense until the song just explodes into a million pieces accompanied by painful shrieks and wails in the background. but this style is more so seem throughout full collapse. in my opinion, the most notable tracks are porcelain, this side of brightness, streaks in the sky, and where the circle ends.

studio record is one thing, live show is another. the energy and power of thursday is very much captured in thursday's live show. so buy this record, learn the lyrics, go see thursday, rock out.

4.0 out of 5 stars How can you hate thursday?, June 19, 2005
By nate and xan (charlotte nc) - See all my reviews
yea, so i bought their other cds and i thought they were amazing. A lot of kids call thursday posers. How can they be a poser band? They pretty much pioneered this type of music. This album was revoltuionary to the whole New Jersey scence as well as the whole screamo/punk scene in general. This album actually shows screaming as a viable music form. this album was recorded raw-nothing fancy. if you like all the fancy studio stuff, chances are you are just another poser trying to be in the scene. this album is how music should be made:recorded-not produced. The only thing that needs work is Geoffs voice, which has improved on their other albums. To be honest I cant wait until thursday's next cd. If you hate thursday then you must hate music in general.

Love this album. Sounds a little different from Thursday's other stuff, but is definitely still hardcore. Awesome.
