Carla Scaletti, Symbolic Sound
This is an optimistic, futuristic and tuneful exploration into electronic pop. It's brilliant! Tons of ideas in there both musical and more abstract that keep your interest to the end and then some. Plus there are some really strange (and I mean that in the very best sense of the word) musical turns and directions you are taking, especially towards the end. Catchy tunes ;-)
Stylistically their music covers the gamut between radio friendly dance/pop to the outer limits and beyond. Their new album Aliens On Line is absolutely drenched with Kyma synthesis and processing (not to mention humor, philosophy, and frankly, some tunes that you will not be able to get out of your head).
Product Description
Female vocals, electronic sound designs and explorations, quirky pop tunes, groove, weird ambience. Away Team members Nik Green and Penny Little/Savage both migrated from signed bands to create a hybrid music, resulting in their album "Aliens on Line ". : "Have you be abducted lately, have you been away, on some crazy cyber planet, have they anything to say..." . The title track from the album was a "virtual hit" on mp3.com, perhaps because of it's virtual implications. Live and recorded, The Away Team use loops, sequencers, synthesizers and esoteric sound design processing tools to mangle and manipulate sounds.
Many of the unusual voices and effects on the album, including the voice of the fish, and various other "computer" voices are actually Penny's voice. Away Team performances also tend to feature elements of performance art; Penny is currently designing a new midi instrument to allow her to dance and interact rather than "stand behind a pieces of hardware and furniture (keyboards)".
