Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

House DJs have been weaving rock guitar licks and power chords into their grooves and mixes for years. Rinôçérôse take a cue from them and run with it. At times, the French group plays houselike riffs on guitars and puts them over four-on-the-floor beats to create tracks that smoothly integrate the two genres. Sometimes discrete elements from each style bump up against each other, creating striking combinations. A wailing guitar sits right next to an acid squelch on "La Guitaristic House Organization" and "Le Triangle" places an indie-rock strum over a house beat. Other elements also come into play. The Brazilian-flavored "Mes Vacances a Rio" occasionally drifts into dub territory; fuzz tones and jazzy flute ride the Latin and Jamaican rhythms. On "Popular Mechanics," dreamily hypnotic e-bow drones get tickled by skittering percussion patterns. It'll be interesting to see what follows Installation Sonore's fun fusion. --Fred Cisterna

5.0 out of 5 stars moody french house takes on a new twist!, April 27, 2000
By Jason Field (London, England) - See all my reviews
I first heard about "Installation Sonore" in Wallpaper* and, being a devoted fan of this magazine coupled with an interest in the output of French house DJs such a Cassius and DaftPunk, my interest was immediately aroused.

The cover of the album alone should be enough of an invitation to buy this disc, and buy it you most certainly should. Don't be alarmed by the first track though - which is almost a kind of warm up for the delights to come.

What can you expect? Think of a classic house groove overlaid with what can only be described as an eclectic French vibe - distorted guitars, Latin rhythms and other strange sounds all wonderfully crafted and mixed together.

All the tracks have certain common underlying sound references, but they are no less interesting for this. You'll be treated to a soundscape that is innovative, refreshing and deeply rewarding that gets better the more you listen.

My favourite track is called "323 Secondes De Musique Repetitive" which comes in at about half way through - it has a deep, expansive and wonderful groove best suited to late night sessions. You need good equipment to make the most of it, but even on something a little more modest, I defy anyone not to be totally blown away.

Go on....buy this disc. I PROMISE you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely gorgeous, April 7, 2000
I bought this on a whim because of their hype in URB magazine and I can definitely see why it got the attention it did. The house on the disc is top of the line deep french organic funk with beautiful guitar parts throughout each track. I can't say I have heard anything like this before and it is welcome refreshment from the norm. Beautifully warm and progressive beats and atmospheres with a touch of the past. Fans of Daft Punk, Cassius, Alex Gopher, San Fransisco house, and Underworld should check this out. Dope house has a new face.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh Yeah!, May 30, 2000
By S. Whitlock (Denver, Ski Country USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I couldn't agree more with the other reviewers. This has a latin funk to it and is smooth and fresh like the waterfall.

First of all, listen to each clip here on Amazon and then consider this CD to be twice that good. The clips are very repetative and the CD really isn't.

Listen to the disco sound this stuff has. They use a number of instruments so it's not boring techno, but rather good dance music with solid bass.

Everyone needs a good dance CD, and this is as good as they get.

If anyone out there owns this, and they don't agree with me............please, please, please tell me what is better than this. If there truly is something better than this I want it.

SW
