Nice looking, but..., March 2, 2001
I read the Misto reviews here on Amazon, and also saw that Cook's Magazine was not impressed with the Misto brand oil sprayer. I wanted something that would work better than Misto and would still not cost a fortune; knowing that Hoffritz makes fine quality kitchen items spurred me to order this "Gourmet Oil Set". I looked on the web and on the hoffritz.com site for additional info on the set, but didn't find anything beyond what's here on the Amazon website - not much.Today, I received the package, and looked inside - there were the three sprayers pictured and the base, along with 12 labels that could be used to identify the contents of the sprayers. I did not locate any information or directions for the sprayers. The sprayer will stand on a counter without the base. I immediately filled one of the bottles with light olive oil, the oil that we use most. What I quickly discovered is that this set of sprayers is completely unlike a number of the other oil sprayers on the market, and do not require any "priming", or removal of a cap to create air pressure, you just press the button under the cap with your finger, much like any other spray can or bottle, and the contents come out, in an almost straight stream, with essentially no "mist". While this can be pretty useful for measuring a small amount of oil into a pan for cooking, it again does NOT "mist" out. For uses other than oiling a pan, like coating the surface of a chicken that you'd like to oil before cooking, it is pretty clumsy, streaming out of the sprayer with a fair amount of force, possibly splashing back, and certainly requiring a brush ( or similar ) to even the coating of oil after spraying. All in all, a nice looking, but somewhat expensive set of small standard spray bottles - Good for what they are, but did not fill the need I had hoped they would.
