5.0 out of 5 stars Talking about a hard job to do!, April 5, 2000
By A Customer
Imagine having to pick from all of Elvis' great songs and compile a 3 cd set. Tough job. Now imagine taking the "best" songs from that set and making a single cd. Difficult to say the least. This is a great collection for novice fans, general music lovers, and diehards like me who buy just about every Elvis CD that comes out. Great packaging and great sound. Sure I already have the box set...But like I said this is a great set for beginners and the general public. I like that it's not totally 1956 focused like a lot of greatest hits packages have been over the years.

This is sure to please!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Overview Of Career, August 31, 2000
By A Customer
I'm a life long Elvis fan. I own all the box sets including Artist Of the Century And I still bought this collection because it edits the 3 Cd set down to (argueably) the best of the best.

This is the best single disc overview of Elvis' career currently available. This is what I put in my player when I want to hear the very best of the Hundreds of songs Elvis recorded.

4.0 out of 5 stars A definitive one CD recap of Elvis' career, August 24, 2001
By Neal C. Reynolds (Indianapolis, Indiana) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Okay, so there's lot a great material not on this compilation. But there is a fairly even number of songs from each of the major periods of his career. It's rather hard to choose a definite dividing line between periods, but basically, The first six songs are the young Elvis, and include "That's All Right" and "Baby, Let's Play House", which don't appear on as many collections as the others. 7-13 cover development of his voice and style, including the less often heard "One Night," "Trouble," and "Reconsider, Baby". 14-18 represents a return to the type of song the younger Elvis sang, but with a developed style...all of these being less commonly heard: "Little Sister", "Return to Sender", "(You're the) Devil In Disguise", "It Hurts Me", and "Big Boss Man". Cuts 19-25 include the fully mature Elvis with "In the Ghetto", "Only the Strong Survive", "Polk Salad Annie", "An American Trilogy", "Burning Love", and "Promised Land" along with the longer version of "Suspicious Minds". So this is an excellant first Elvis CD for your collection, but even if you already have one or two CD's, you'll probably find that you're missing about 2/3 of the material available on this collection.
