Product Description

Editorial Review
Hot on the wheels of the wildly successful Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Sony brings the world Grind Session, a great-looking and -playing skateboard game that features six pro boarders. Can it be that Sony is aiming to give Mr. Hawk a run for his money? That may be a tough trick to pull off--but that doesn't mean that Grind Session isn't worth its salt.

The first thing players will notice about this game is that it contains an extreme number of tricks made simple by an easy-to-learn control scheme. A training session moves players comfortably through the basics and into tournament mode, which offers eight skate parks from around North America and even one in London. A ninth level, known as the dream house, becomes available only after players master all previous levels.

Grind Session throws all sorts of objectives at players. Not only must they rack up trick points and disturb trashcans, pigeons, and other items, but they must also attempt to follow technical lines that will have skaters leaping across buildings, among other feats. For every completed objective, players earn respect points, which can open up photo shoots as well as that bonus ninth level.

As expected, Grind Session is set to rock tunes with a little hip-hop tossed in for good measure. The result may resemble Pro Skater a little too closely, but that doesn't make Grind Session any less fun. --Robb Guido

Pros:

  • Eight detailed skate parks
  • Long list of tricks that are easy to pull off
Cons:
  • Levels aren't as sprawling as in Tony Hawk's.

5.0 out of 5 stars better then tony hawk!, June 4, 2000

Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This is a one of a kind skateboarding game! Ive never played anything like it! The gameplay is awesome! it'll keep you entertained for hours on end! even if you do manage beating the game theres tons of secret levels and charaters that are to be gotten! I like how its challenging but not so hard it gets anoying. The triks you can pull of are sick! the levels are larg with tons of places to pull off your greatest moves! they even have secret areas that can only be accsesed by becoming possesed! getting possesed happens when you pull off a combo move with four tricks in it. it's the tightest game ever! you dont even need to be into skateboarding to like this game! All my freinds and I agree its better than tony hawk! if your planning on buying a game... BUY THIS ONE! I promise you wont regret it! By far the best game ive played in a long time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than Tony Hawk. PERIOD!, June 26, 2000

Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
Even though some people consider Shaba Studios an imitator, they designed a top-notch skateboard game that not only has real, accurate reproductions of skateboard locations, top notch pro skaters, lots of secret areas, and a loaded move list (over 100 moves available), but has an incredibly high replay value, making you want to go back for more and figuring out how to accomplish those hard-to-do "tech lines". I would have to say that this is an enhanced version of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater with more gameplay, an excellent soundtrack, and more options (including the Create-A-Skater mode). Enough said!

5.0 out of 5 stars Grind Sesson better than Tony Hawk?, June 6, 2000
By A Customer
Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
Of course it being a new game you usually think it is alredy a better game. But Grind Sesson is more than a new game. With the old Tony Hawk you had "competions" at any old level. In this you're actuallt at a Vans Triple Crown Park and go through the real challenges like vert, street, and best trick. Tony Hawk wasn't that in depth. The custom skater could be a little better but graphics, and the real pro sk8ers are things that kepp the game good. Unforunately Tony 2 will blow away Grind Sesson but this is still a good game.
