Editorial Reviews

About the Artist
In addition to leading his own band, bassist Todd Sickafoose has played and recorded with many of the most exciting improvising music groups in San Francisco and Los Angeles including the Scott Amendola Band, the James Carney Group, the Vinny Golia Ensemble, the Jenny Scheinman Quartet, the Justin Morell Septet, the Tony Furtado Project, and Noe Venable and the Ruiners.

Sickafoose studied bass with Charlie Haden and composition with, among others, the late, great Mel Powell. The LA WEEKLY cited Sickafoose as an innovative orchestrator of abstractionist colorations . . . the melodies are strong, the rhythms sophisticated. The Weekly also identified Sickafoose as a hard-driving, technically indomitable bassist: at 24, hes already hard to ignore. (January 22-28, 1999)

Band Members: Todd Sickafoose (bass/composer)
Peter Epstein (saxophones)
Alan Ferber (trombone)
Justin Morell (guitar)
Mark Ferber (drums)

Product Description
The debut recording of this highly talented and imaginative group. Bassist Todd Sickafoose's fiery compositions are performed brilliantly by an acrobatic young ensemble: NY saxophonist Peter Epstein, trombonist Alan Ferber, guitarist Justin Morell, and drummer Mark Ferber. "Ranks as one of the best discs to be released so far this year" - LOS ANGELES TIMES

5.0 out of 5 stars The fiery future of jazz, March 22, 2000
By JQ (Berkeley, CA) - See all my reviews
The Todd Sickafoose Group kick living spit out of the music staff. Sickafoose is that rare combination: abstract yet passionate. He has assembled a group of musicians around him who know how to converse while keeping all unique voices intact. This debut will be impossible to top. If you care about jazz with muscle, GET THIS CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars My talented cousin Todd..., March 17, 2000
By Gwen Eyster (New York City) - See all my reviews
Not only is he my cousin, but the music of Todd's CD "Dogs Ouside" is a masterful blend of bursting energy and colorful rhythm...my favorite being "Workshop," track #5. The swell of intensity and busy saxophones literally made me dance. Congrats, Sickafoose...can't wait to hear more!
