Well made & almost hassle free vacuum canisters, March 19, 2003
I had grown very tired of using our Tilia Foodsaver vacuum for canisters. First, the hassle of getting it out of the cabinets and 2nd, the canisters rarely sealed well - or for long. I had bought enough canisters through the years to become fed up.I tried 4 sets of these, initially, to help preserve our botannical herbs. I buy herbs in bulk - usually 1 pound or more - as part of a diet regimen not only for my wife and I, but for our 5 1/2 year old Doberman who had kidney cancer. It's important to keep these herbs fresh! Using the hand-held vacuum device is simple and easy. You merely pump it until you no longer hear any air. Typically, this seems to be around 10 pumps though it can go higher depending on the canister size and how full it is. IT WORKS. I also tried it on a couple of bottles of open Chardonnay - both of which were about 1/2 full and after 1 week, they wine was a fresh and tasty as on the day they were opened. I have ordered 5 more sets as the original 4 were not enough to store everything that we have. I rated this product a 4 for two reasons. First, the canisters could be a little larger. Second, it would be nice to have darkened canisters or UV protected so you don't have to worry about damage from light. Minor, I agree, since you can store them in a cabinet but these are my two suggestions.
