Product Description

Amazon.com Review

The first taste of smooth, fresh, homemade applesauce is a memory one can never forget. This food strainer--a time- and effort-saver that eliminates the need to peel, core, or remove seeds--makes it easy to recreate that sauce at home with little work involved. It's also nice for making homemade baby food, eliminating concerns about preservatives, and other items you don't want your baby to consume that may be present in commercial-brand baby foods. The manufacturer has also included several recipes and useful ideas.

In addition, several attachments can be purchased separately, including strainer/screens for berries, pumpkins and squashes, salsa, and grapes, as well as an electric motor, which would eliminate the need to manually turn the crank. --Teresa Simanton

5.0 out of 5 stars Borrowed from a friend, October 31, 2003
By Diana Gordon (Barrie, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
In the summer, during strawberry season, I had borrowed one of these terrific machines from a friend at work. He had all of the attachments, so I was able to use the berry screen. I washed the berries, but left the hulls on to see what it would do. Well, I got perfect results when it hulled and de-seeded 9 quarts of strawberries in less than 1/2 hour. The cleanup wasn't much of a challenge when weighed against the amount of work and mess I would have made without it.

I made wonderful strawberry jelly with the juice and pulp, that I still get mention of when I see the people I gave some to. I had to get this machine so I can repeat last year's success without having to borrow my friend's machine again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Missing Part from VillaWare 200 bought from Amazon, February 4, 2005
This item arrived from Amazon without the critical gasket needed to help prevent leaks. Something that I did not realize when I purchased it on 7-22-04. No opportunity to use it last year as all my tomatoes were too juicy to make sauce. It took some doing, but I have finally ran down the company who is now supplying these gaskets and other replacement parts for the Villaware Strainer. http://www.kasbahouse.com/ Suggest caution in ordering additional screens to make positive the screens are made for this particular strainer and not for the VillaWare Victorio. Not certain but there may well be intentional obfuscation from sellers of the screens.

4.0 out of 5 stars What a lifesaver if you're canning!, September 25, 2003
By Linda C. Lett "lclett" (Wantagh, NY United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is my first year canning, and because I'm a bit lazy I didn't want to have to peel anything, let alone strain it by hand to get all the seeds out. I ordered this Villaware fruit and vegetable strainer to give me a hand with peaches and tomatoes. The instruction booklet helped me put all the pieces together, although the clear plastic funnel that shoots the seeds and skins out after the juice and pulp are extracted and pushed through the strainer is hard to attach, and I'm afraid it's going to crack each time I put the machine together. Cleaning the parts was not half as bad as I expected. After all is said and done - this is definitely the way to go!! This strainer gets the job done with minimal effort and is a real timesaver!! I'd recommend it to anyone who's going to be canning lots of tomatoes or, if you're into the "natural" stuff, making your own baby food.
