Editorial Reviews

Product Description
This spectacular 10-part documentary series charts the story of Christianity from its very beginning to the second millennial anniversary of Jesus' birth, set against the panoramic sweep of 2,000 years of history. Each program, lavishly filmed at historic sights, focuses on two centuries in the spread of a religion that has had a profound role in shaping our world. We see how the birth of Jesus and the spread of His teachings led inevitably to a clash with Rome, and how the outlawed faith ultimately overcame centuries of persecution to triumph and spread throughout the world. This is the complete story: the history, the ideas, the contradictions, the disputes -- everything from wars to individual acts of extraordinary devotion.

In addition to the historical narrative, Two Thousand Years includes commentary by noted theologians, historians, and religious leaders who offer varying perspectives on the controversies and challenges that face Christianity as it enters its third millenium. This acclaimed series is narrated by the renowned British writer and broadcaster, Melvyn Bragg.

This is a truly remarkable documentary of Christianity; it offers insights from professional researchers to clergy on the evolution and spread of Christianity from Rome through Europe and to the US. Excellent videography of churches, important people, events and simulations. It explains various viewpoints on the history of Christianity and is well narrated. An great buy, I'll see it over and over again!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Insights besides Information, June 16, 2000
By Helen S. Mills (Carmichael, California, USA) - See all my reviews
Though I have watched several videos about the history of Christianity, I was most impressed with "Two Thousand Years: The History of Christianity" because it gave insights about the development of the Christian church and its struggle that I had not found before. I want to view the series again and share it with my friends at my church.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Detailed Than A&E/History Channel's Version, December 20, 2005
By Reginald Williams (Denmark, SC United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
It moves a bit slower with less flash and polish, but the more gradual pace offers a bit more insight into the psychological and humanistic progress of Christianity.

If you can, get this one and the A&E/History Channel Set.
