Dominican singer-percussionist Chichi Peralta makes De Vuelta al Barrio an international affair. Recorded in the Dominican Republic and England and partially mixed in the U.S., this album also reflects an understanding of world rhythms that allows Peralta to mix and match effortlessly and convincingly. De Vuelta is most successful when Peralta takes the biggest chances: "El Beso de Judas" is a four-minute meld of psychedelic guitar effects, Brazilian percussion, sitar, and droning chant that would bring a smile to Os Mutantes' faces, while "Baila Venga Chichi" is handily and intensely rapped. A few tracks get bogged down in lite-radio clichés, but moments like the child's giggles at the end of "Hasta Que Lo Pierde" underscore the record's status as an intriguingly personal addition to the Latin-pop canon. --Rickey Wright

En cuanto a la calidad de sonido es superior. Este trabajo musical es mejor que su primera prduccion musical colocandose como uno de los mejores artistas Dominicanos. Estoy muy contento de que desues de tres anos regrese con una produccion sin igual. VIVI MI PAIS, REPUBLICA DOMINICANA

He esperado anciosamente este segundo CD de Chichi Peralta por tres años. "De vuelta al barrio" llega por fin a manos de miles de fanáticos y críticos mundiales que hemos querido saber si Peralta sería capaz de igualar o superar su primer exitoso trabajo, "Pa' Otro La'o". Indiscutiblemente, nada podrá superar al clásico instantáneo que fue "Amor Narcótico", pero este segundo trabajo no decepciona. Peralta vuelve con una mexcla de ritmos e instrumentos que hacen de esta producción un trabajo rico y completo. Una vez más, tenemos la participación de la Orquesta Sinfónica de Londres y varios artistas invitados. Lo único que me hace falta es la suave voz de su cantante anterior, Jandy Feliz. Pero esta vez, Peralta no solo nos deleita con su letra y música, sino que nos da a probar el sabor de su tierra y nos transporta a nuestra propia tierra y a ese barrio que dejamos atrás hace años. Gracias, Chichi, por compartir tus pensamientos y sentimientos. No nos hagas esperar tanto la próxima vez.

I have had the pleasure of listening to both of ChiChi's cds and I love them both. This one, however, has reached deep into my soul. The distinctive rhythms and sounds displayed in his music clearly show what an artist he really is.
