Amazon.com Review
If you love fresh-ground coffee but hate getting up in the morning to make it, Capresso's 10-cup coffee maker will put a smile on your morning. It does it all: filters the water, grinds the beans, and makes the coffee. (Unfortunately, it doesn't also make toast, but you'll enjoy your first cup of perfectly brewed coffee while you're making it.) This model's sleek design features shiny black plastic with rounded edges. It's taller than most coffee makers but, at 19 inches, still fits under the counter.
The machine is filled at night using regular tap water and beans, and then programmed using the LCD display panel. Its cold-water filtration system uses a charcoal filter to remove most of the chlorine in the water. (Additional filters and replacement parts are available from Capresso.) The burr coffee grinder grinds the beans to one of four different settings, depending on the type of bean used, and the ground coffee fills up the included reusable gold-tone coffee filter. Of course, the coffee grinder and coffee maker can be used without the programmable feature, but the big draw here is the smell of just-ground java wafting into the bedroom before the alarm goes off. The one-year warranty includes Capresso Plus Service, with help available at a toll-free number or by fax or e-mail. If the machine needs repair or replacement while under warranty, the company pays for UPS pickup and shipping both ways. Complete operating instructions are included with many illustrations, troubleshooting tips, and hints on preparing that elusive pot of perfect brew. --Marcie Bovetz
Editor's Choice: Capresso's CoffeeTeam Plus coffeemaker/grinder is our choice for the best coffeemaker over $100. It is the ideal machine for java lovers who want to both grind and brew their own cup. Its built-in burr grinder has four grind settings, and coolly deposits the grinds into an included gold filter. After the grinding is finished, the filter holder rotates over so that brewing can begin (with three brewing settings to choose from). All this gives you a lot of control over the flavor, and the included charcoal water filter and three different coffee-strength settings also help. Read more in our comparison of coffeemakers.
