Dark, chill, and catchy - matches the film's mood, January 16, 2002
If you're buying this to get songs like "Walkin' On Sunshine", "Hip to Be Square", and "Simply Irresistable", then go buy an 80s Compilation. However, if you want that sonically matches the mind of Patrick Bateman (AP's main character), then this is it. You get the darkness ("Something in the Air", "Watching Me Fall"), the blank hopefulness of a late 80s dance club ("True Faith", "What's On Your Mind", "Pump up the Volume"), the urban hip-ness ("Paid in Full"), and the twisted agression ("You Spin Me Round", the re-make of "Paid in Full") that makes up the persona of Bateman. All the songs fit his mood well and also, more importantly, sound good. The Bateman monologues are all classic and worthy of memorization and recital at random moments [...]. Probably my favorite soundtrack ever. Then again, it IS based on a film and book which are my respective favorites of each, so perhaps my opinion is a bit skewed...
