Product Description

In this incredible documentary film, Padre Pio tells his story. The voice of the simple friar from Pietrelcina lives on through his own writings, recalling various moments from his remarkable life. Padre Pio is now known as Blessed Pio of Pietrelcina, as a result of his beatification on May 2nd,1999, by Pope John Paul II. A humble Capuchin priest from San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy, Padre Pio was blessed by God in many wonderful and mysterious ways. He was born to Giuseppa and Grazio Forgione, peasant farmers, in the small Italian village of Pietrelcina on May 25, 1887. From his childhood, it was evident that he was a true child of God.

Padre Pio and the Stigmata The most dramatic sign of his special grace was the stigmata. Padre Pio bore the wounds of Jesus on his hands, feet, and side for fifty years. Several days before he died in 1968, all evidence of the wounds disappeared. In this film, Padre Pio describes how he first received the stigmata, and how he lived with it throughout his life. He speaks of himself as a confessor and spiritual guide, a man of prayer and a man of God. Other wonders have been granted to Padre Pio, including the gift of prophecy and the ability to effect miraculous cures.

Padre Pio: Man of God includes interviews with those who knew him best, including Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, Enzo Biagi, Renzo Arbore, and his fellow monks, Father Gerardo Di Flumeri, Father Paolo Cuvino, and Brother Modestino of Pietrelcina.

The voice of Padre Pio is Christopher Jones.

1.0 out of 5 stars Minimaly Informed, January 9, 2002
By Leslie (Birmingham,, Alabama United States) - See all my reviews
I found this documentary lacking details about Padre Pio's most interesting life. I was given the impression, from the description of this item, that I would actually see excerpts of Padre Pio's talking, interpreted by one who spoke English. Unfortunately, There were none. Also you see only two faraway glimpses of the actual man, being helped to a podium to speak, but it was an insignificant amount of information and/or insight into the actual man and his beliefs. If you just want to take a tour of his bedroom, church, and hear some of his friends speak briefly about him, then it may be worth twenty dollars. Otherwize, get a book.

4.0 out of 5 stars In his own words...., May 22, 2002
This film is unique among the handful of videos on the market about Padre Pio because it presents the life of the soon-to-be-canonized Blessed Pio in his own words, read beautifully and effectively by Christopher Jones. It also features terrific footage shot on location at San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy.
