5.0 out of 5 stars Enough already, May 31, 2000
By A Customer
You can't quarrel with the music on this C.D. but every time a new company inherits the Motown catalog we get the same albums with new titles (this is at least the sixth time this music has been reissued). Meanwhile, in the vaults, lie dozens and dozens and dozens of magical Supremes recordings with Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard, Jean Terrell, Scherrie Payne and Susaye Greene on lead; solo turns by all these artists, including Florence's complete unreleased ABC album and its outtakes; dozens and dozens of incredible Martha and the Vandellas cuts, including an entire unreleased album, an unreleased Copa album that's incredible, and plenty of solo Martha; divine Marvelettes material and so on--ALL of it equal to anything that's been released over and over and over and over. I for one would like to hear and own it before I die. So MANY years have been wasted as this music languishes, unheard. Martha produced by Stevie, Diana produced by Smokey, Jean produced by Stevie, Wanda Rogers produced by Smokey. The Lost and Found albums were a beginning. Surely there's money to be made here beyond, yet again, oooooooo oooooooo ooooooooooo....

5.0 out of 5 stars this is one fine CD--especially for newcomers to these wonderful artists, March 23, 2009

Thank goodness that the "20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection" CD series saw fit to release a second volume of awesome hits by Diana Ross and The Supremes. This group was hotter than anything and they sure hit the airwaves big time back in the day! Even all these years later, their music remains very enjoyable and perfectly good for dancing. Although there could have been at least a couple more songs on this CD I think it's a good CD for people on a budget who want to enjoy some of the best from these wonderful artists.

The CD begins with "Nothing But Heartaches." "Nothing But Heartaches" has a great beat and these ladies deliver this with lots of energy! This song may not be the happiest they ever sang; but it's incredibly catchy and I love it. It just plain sounds good. "Nothing But Heartaches" makes a strong start for this CD. In addition, "My World Is Empty Without You" gets the royal treatment from The Supremes; they sing this to perfection--and beyond! "My World Is Empty Without You" is just as catchy as the first track on this CD although this time you can hear more of the sadness in the song. Their excellent diction really enhances their performance all the more, too.

"Love Is Here And Now You're Gone" was recorded by Diana Ross & The Supremes. "Love Is Here And Now You're Gone" was, of course, a major hit for Diana Ross & The Supremes and just one listen will tell you why. I love it! They can really make a torch song sound so sweet; and that's 1960s pop flavor is every bit as thrilling today as it was back in the day. "The Happening" has quite a peppy arrangement with some fantastic percussion; I really like "The Happening" and it's a major highlight of this album.

"Up The Ladder To The Roof" is a number that I always thought was particularly beautiful; I am charmed with its sound every time I hear it. I could never tire of hearing The Supremes perform this with all their hearts and souls; and listen for The Supremes to do a fantastic job on "Stoned Love." "Stoned Love" rocks in its own way; and that piano arrangement is very well done.

"Nathan Jones" is a number I haven't heard too much before; but when The Supremes sing this they bat it straight out of the ballpark! The CD also ends very well with The Supremes performing "Floy Joy." "Floy Joy" has a great melody that makes you want to tap your feet to the rhythm--and don't be surprised if you find yourself simply jumping up and dancing wherever you are! "Floy Joy" makes a terrific ending number for this CD.

Diana Ross & The Supremes accomplished a lot in their years of work together; and everything they ever sang shows genius and a wonderful sensitivity that shines bright throughout time. I highly recommend this for people just discovering Diana Ross & The Supremes. Their fans may already have most if not all of these songs in their music collections; the diehard fan is probably best off looking for more extensive CDs and box sets by these great artists.
