4.0 out of 5 stars Good, Heavy Duty, but difficult to set up., May 19, 2000
By Al the Pal "Al the Pal" (The Fruited Plain, United States) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
I was impressed with the weight of this jig - I would guess over 15 lbs. The castings are good quality and thick. Don't drop this on your toes! The weight keeps it firmly planted in the slot during use. It has two handles that keep your hands well out of harms way as you push your work through.

Setting up and trueing the jig was a bit of a pain. Having a left tilt saw required me to move the cleat to an alternate set of mounting holes in the shoe. Not too difficult once you take the whole jig appart. I reassembled it to do the squaring proceedure which is difficlut with the supplied allen wrenches. You have to access two screws through holes in the sliding upper base. These can only be reached with the long side of an allen wrench. I ended up using a long socket wrench mounted one to get enough torque to loosen and tighten the screws adequately. The rear screw can only be accessed if you remove the micro adjusting mechanism AGAIN on left tilt saws.

The stop screws for the verticle alignments are difficult to fine tune. The push block has only a threaded rod with a jam nut on it. I had to back the screw off its final position to allow for slippage while tightening the jam nut. I will probably still check it for square each time I use it anyway.

It does have a stop screw to keep the jig off your blade which does adjust fairly easily. You can also mount a sacrificial wood block on the verticle face if you plan to cut with a dado set. You supply the screws to fit the predrilled holes.

The instructions are not very easy to follow and are illustrated with smudgy B&W photos. Delta should take a cue from Incra and hire someone to draw the illustrations and write clearly.

Overall, this is a good product, but it's kind of like a '71 Ford pickup - slow to start unless you know how to finess it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow what a great tool value., June 29, 2000
I bought this jig in tandem with the inexpensive Delta mortise attachment jig. At the time I was ordering, I thought it was funny that the tenoning jig cost more than the mortiser. The reason became apparent on delivery. This is a HEAVY DUTY precision jig. After unpacking it and setting it up, I was greatly pleased with its performance. I use this jig exclusively for simple mortise and tenon joinery, on a right-tilt 1 1/2 hp contractor saw. I have had flawless results, and highly recommend this jig to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars A tennoning dream, April 27, 2003
By Flash (North Georgia, USA) - See all my reviews
This jig puts them all to shame! This jig does exactly what was promised, accurately and quickly. It is extremely easy to set up. It also keeps it's settings. I mean, this thing is right on the money. I build furniture for a living. I needed something that would be easy to use, and also quick and accurate. This beautiful jig is a breeze to use. It requires a table saw that has a T-slot in the mitre gage groove. If you have a Delta 10" table saw or larger, than you already have what is required to use this fine piece of equipment.

It comes packed in grease to avoid rust. This is easily cleaned by setting it in a bucket of mineral spirits for about one minute. Pull it out, dry it off, and you're ready to go. This has to be one of the easiest and most accurate pieces of equipment that I have ever used. If you're an experienced woodworker, you will love this jig. The new yankee was right. THIS ONE IS THE BEST. Delta out did themselves on this one. I'd buy another one in a minute.
