Editorial Reviews

From the Label
All recording and sound engineering done by Andrew Roth. Recorded in Costa Rica, Central America from February'99 - March 2000

Product Description
"Natural Sounds of Costa Rica" captures the wonderful range of sounds found in a variety of Costa Rican habitats. From its tropial rain forests, wetlands, and cloud forests, one is presented with the beautiful songs of tropical birds, a symphony of frog calls, the growl of the howler monkey, and the violent eruptions of Arenal Volcano. Whether played to create a set of soothing ambient environments, or whether used to practice identifying bird, frog, and monkey calls, these recordings are a valuable addition to any nature enthusiast's library.

Bird, frog, and monkey calls are identified in the detailed booklet provided with this compact disk.

5.0 out of 5 stars virtual soundscape, June 25, 2000
By Lodewijk Coen (Belgium, Europe) - See all my reviews
Since long, I've been an avid listener to ambient music and sound recordings (from Brian Eno, over The Monroe Institute, to Jeffrey Thompson). Mainly to meditate by, to listen to while working, or to let the music or sounds take me to that special place,... almost like making a virtual journey.

What I like about this CD, is that the quality of the sound recording is so good, it teleports me to the rainforest.

The other thing I enjoyed is that this CD consists of 8 different pieces, and while one could say, well, they're just sound recordings, to me each piece gives me the feeling it has been created, that there's some creative effort by the makers to create a kind of "composition", without this getting in the way of the sounds.

Then some sounds are really out of this world -- yet paradoxically, very much _of_ this earth: i.e. the (active) volcano track, which sounds as if the earth is breathing -- a somewhat scary, awe-inspiring sound that I didn't know existed.

I enjoy these recordings very much, and can recommend it wholeheartedly.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Next Best Thing To Being There, January 16, 2002
By Linda Gould (Mt. Desert, ME United States) - See all my reviews
The sound quality and variety on this natural-sounds CD are fabulous. 8 sections, each 6-11 min, cloudforest, howler monkeys & rain, frogs, rainforest, boiling mud pots, Arenal volcano, wetlands, seashore. Bird, frog and monkey calls are identified within each track by second. I took a flier on this one, usually I love international music, not nature sounds, and this is great.
