Product Description

Product Description

One wants the Dewprism to revive his lost sister. The other wants the Dewprism to force her way atop the throne. Which will you help? In Threads of Fate, you must choose between the two main characters and their respective quests. Rue holds off challengers with his magical sword that allows him to assume the form and possess the ability of several monsters. Petulant princess Mint's boomerang shoots a spray of disabling magic. These characters' threads of fate often intersect and provide some amusing results.

Threads of Fate is a real-time 3-D role-playing game where the action pauses only so you can select spells from a circular menu.

5.0 out of 5 stars Square Delivers Another Hit!, August 13, 2000
By "air85" (Florida) - See all my reviews
Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
Squaresoft has satisfied my taste once again with Threads of Fate. If you have played Brave Fencer Musashi, this game will seem a very familiar. It is a mix of action and RPG elements. First of all, the player can choose from two different characters: Rue, a boy with a mysterious past, or Mint, an ex-princess that was kicked out of the castle for being rambunctious and rowdy. Both stories are mostly the same, but approaches to situations and even some areas are different. Rue's story is very serious, while Mint's quest is relaxed and humorous. Rue and Mint each offer different play styles. Rue has the ability to transform into previous creatures that he has defeated. Using this ability, he can avoid obstacles and solve puzzles. Mint, on the other hand, gets to use magic. Mint's story is more fun, in my opinion, because she learns an array of spells and insults everybody else in the game in a funny fashion. Both characters have been searching for a "relic." Rue has been searching for it to revive his lost love, Claire. Mint wants to get revenge on Maya, her younger sister who will now be successor to the throne, and Mint also wants to achieve world domination.

The game's music is superb, while the graphics are even more excellent. The game sounds and appears crisp and clear, and the characters are a little cartoony but without becoming ridiculous. The game has a very active feel which keeps you alert. Your character runs around and fights at the same time, which is reminiscent of the style in Brave Fencer Musashi. The gamer can finish both Rue's and Mint's scenarios for a special treat! Since it is hard to get every secret on the first run, playing the game a second time is still great. Overall, the game is fun to watch and fun to play, and can make you laugh aloud. I highly recommend this game to anyone who wants an exciting adventure!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Cool Review for a cool game (pun intended), July 13, 2000
By A Customer
Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
I've been interested in this title ever since I found the japanese intro on the web, when it was still just called DewPrism.

When the demo was first brought to America, I immediately went out and got it. And I must say, I am extremely impressed.

The interface is beautiful to say the least. With two characters to play as (Rue is good, Mint is slightly evil, if you didn't already know), with intertwining storylines, Threads of Fate promises to be the best action rpg ever. The controls are simple, and only take a few moments to fully master, and is so close in graphic-type and controlswise to Brave Fencer Musashi that I consider it 'Brave Fencer Musashi 2'. Of course, the graphics, storyline, and abilites are far superior to BFM.

If you decide to play as Rue, you can morph into any enemy you killed by collecting a coin out of the first one you killed, and each transformation has different abilites, some of which are quite funny (like the porcupine-type creature in the demo). It appears that in the game, that your maximum hit points increases while running around fighting, instead of like in BFM and most other RPGs, where you have to gain a certain amount of exp to possibly raise your hp.

If you decide to play as Mint, you use magic instead of transforming. Personally, I find Mint's game harder than Rue's.

If you liked Brave Fencer Musashi, or are just a big Squaresoft fan, then you'll LOVE Threads of Fate! I think this game is worth buying, most definetly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Find the Relic!, October 11, 2001
By C. Zeman "Leandra" (Western PA, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I originally bought this game for my sister for her birthday ( I preordered it!) But she never played it. So, I started playing it and found myself hooked on this game! The storyline is so awesome and the characters are terrific! Play as Princess Mint, the magic-wielding girl who lost her right to the throne of the East Heaven Kingdom to her little sister and find the relic so she can regain her title! Or, play as Rue, the young boy who lost his best friend, Claire, to a monster. Use his ability to schange into defeated monsters to help him get the relic so he can bring Claire back. Fight Belle and Duke, the treasure hunters, and battle Rod the Blade Star (and his best pal, Johnny Wolf!) and his mighty weapons! This game is incredible! The best part is, after you beat both games (you have to sit through the credits and save the game at the prompts EVERY TIME), you can play again with the same powers as you had when you finished the last time! You can even play BOTH scenarios at the SAME TIME once you beat both! GET THIS GAME!
