Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
While the inclusion of novelty songster Weird Al Yankovic (here with "Polkamon") and new-waver all-stars the B-52's (here with the playful "The Chosen One") sharpens the proceedings with their individual visions, most of the performers here have been coached by producer David Foster or other music industry veterans. Most successful is former disco diva Donna Summer, who emerges with the dramatic tune "The Power of One," which sneakily includes the Pokémon theme featured throughout the film. Twelve-year-old Alysha may be a burgeoning teen star with her surprisingly mature interpretation of "Dreams." The emphasis is on the current teen-pop trend. Dream Street, Christian boy band Plus One, and O-Town (the band documented in ABC's TV series Making the Band) all serve up the prescribed recipe for success: swooning harmonies, Hallmark-card lyrics, and near-operatic melodies designed for radio. You expected a movie starring Pokémon to miss a trend? C'mon. --Rob O'Connor

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good CD for Pokemon enthusists, July 24, 2000
This was a good, if not great, CD. The music is enjoyable (the rythms work especially well) and I've tried to provide a brief idea of how I felt about each song. In general, I liked the first soundtrack better, but that's not to say this one isn't good.

1. The Power of One--Good song and uplifting lyrics, if not a mite loud at spots.

2. Dreams--This was probably one of the best on the CD, I'd never have guessed the singer was only 12.

3. They Don't Understand--What can I say? I hated this one. The music itself wasn't too great, and all the lyrics do is reinforce the gap between kids and parents (and I do know some parents who enjoy Pokemon).

4. Wonderland--While not quite on par with Catch Me if You Can from the first soundtrack, this is still a good song.

5. With All Your Heart--Carries the message heard throughout many of the songs that one person can make a lot of difference.

6. The Extra Mile--This was another one of the best songs on the CD, wonderful lyrics and good sound to boot.

7. Flying Without Wings--Not too bad, hard to say things too specific about all the different songs;)

8. Pokemon World--Okay, it's not the best rendition of the new Pokemon World theme song, but it's wasn't THAT bad (and the I loved the weird little electronic sound replacing the words "Master of them all").

9. Blah, Blah, Blah--This song's saving grace might have been its music, but the lyrics ripped that all down: even worse than number three, this song is offending in promoting the idea that Pokemon is more important than everything else one could be doing, and parents/teachers are just nagging. And I'm a Pokemon fanatic, so don't think I'm just providing a biased review, either.

10. Polkamon--Unlike number nine, above, this was probably my absolute favorite of all the songs on this CD. Yankovic's weird but enrapturing style strikes again, urging everybody to "Polka, mon!" Sidesplitting, what more can be said to describe it?

11. The Chosen One--An interesting way of setting the prophecy proclaiming Ash the world's savior to music. Oddly enticing.

12. One Heart--Much like many of the other titles involving the power of One, they tend to become generic (not to say each one can't be good in its own right, but there isn't as much to say about each individual song).

13. One--See above:p

14. Comin' to the Rescue--Well done, fast-paced.

15. Dance of the Bellossom--A good beat, but rather disconcerting that only the Pokemon are providing lyrics (and it worked better with the visuals in the movie). A fun song, at any rate.

16. The Legend Comes to Life--This was an incredible instrumental piece from the movie's score. I loved it in the movie and it works just as well on the soundtrack; my second favorite (no, it can't beat Polkamon--but it's a close second).

All-in-all, this CD is worth getting, but, as stated, not quite as good as the first one.

5.0 out of 5 stars As Good As The First One If Not Better, July 18, 2000
By Kevin T. Rodriguez "The Movie Wizard.com Revi... (Citrus Heights, CA United States) - See all my reviews
Well I must say this was a really good soundtrack. This one will always remain a favorite of mine. Now for the songs:

1. The Power Of One - Donna Summer (5/5) One of the best songs on this CD, Donna Summer's really delivers a great theme for this movie. The vocals, music, message, everything about this song is top-rate. Let's hope this song is played in the movie so many people will get the chance to hear it.

2. Dreams - Alysha (5/5)

This was a great song for new comer Alysha. It's hard to tell that this girl is 12 from first hearing her! I can't waite to get her next album!

3. They Don't Understand - Dream Street (3/5)

Okay so this song isn't as good as most songs I've (In vocal talk that is), but the beat and everything else is right on track with the vocals. This is useally very hard for five 10 year olds to do, but these boys got the right idea. Plus this might give parents a little 401 that they liked more ridicules things when they were kids (Like when Superman first came out). So give kids a break.

4. Wonderland - Angela Via (2/5)

Although I like Angela Via, this song just leaves me clueless all around. The song doesn't make much sense, nor do the lyrics make much sense or impact, so I don't know what else to say except try not to dis the girl for this song, she tried.

5. With All Your Heart - plus ONE (4/5)

This is a truly good song. This one encourages kids to make the right choice if they look into their heart. I hope to hear more songs like this soon.

6. The Extra Mile - Laura Pausini (5/5)

This is my personal favorite on the WHOLE CD! Great vocals, great music, this is one song that I hope gets heard by EVERYONE! I'd buy this CD just for this song if I had too!

7. Flying Without Wing - Westlife (3/5)

Although not my favorite, it's got potential. They just made this song without a lot of tune in it.

8. Pokemon World - Youngstown featuring Nobody's Angle (1/5)

This was such a horrible remake of Pokemon world I don't want to even talk about it.

9. Blah, Blah, Blah - Devotion 2 Music (2/5)

Okay so this was a bad song, but it was better that the previous one. At least this song has a point to it.

10. Polkamon - "Weird Al" Yankovic (5/5)

As always "Weird Al" Yankovic delivers a funny and clever song to us all. I think all "Weird Al" Yankovic fans should get this CD to hear this masterpiece.

11. The Choosen One - The B-52's (2/5)

Okay so I could live without this one, but it was good in it's own weird way.

12. One Heart - O-Town (5/5)

Boy O-Town did a really good job on this song. I really like how you can hear the emotion into the way they sing this song with all their heart. Bravo O-Town!

13. One - Denisse Lara (5/5)

This was another memorable song about how you can make a difference. I give creadit to all these songs like this one!

14. Comin' To The Rescue - O-Town (4/5)

O-Town's at it again with this catchy rescue song that will have you huming the whole way through!

15. Dance Of The Bellossom - From "Pikachu Rescue Adventure" Score (2/5)

Okay, this I could really live without. But the kids will find this fun.

16. The Legend Comes To Life - From "The Power Of One" Score (5/5)

This is a great score to end a great CD. Very calm, very smoth, very good! I can't wait to pick up the movie score.

So all in all this is a great CD that you need to buy RIGHT NOW! Untill the next soundtrack this is Kevin signing of.
