5.0 out of 5 stars Shades of the Underworld, October 20, 2002
Dagdas 2000 sophomore effort Underworld, is a great follow-up to 1999s Celtic Trance. Where as Celtic Trance does get a bit repetitive with alot of the songs sounding similar with the same chords, Underworld on the other hand has far more variety.

Unfortunately the big flaw to this disc is as a previous reviewer said, the first two songs sound dead identical to the last two tracks.

Brushing that aside though, Underworld is a beautiful album. More ominous than Celtic Trance, it's darker than Celtic Trance although not as strong as 2001s Sleeping With The Gods Of Love. Merlins Cave is a very haunting and eerie track. Lost Myths Of Creation is a very ominous track with a very dark stormy atmosphere. Track 4, Shadow Of Atlantis is the most Celtic Trance-esque song on the album.

Overall, not their strongest work but definately worth purchasing. Sleeping With The Gods Of Love though to me is Dagdas most inspired effort to date.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great New Group (to Me), November 10, 2001

Came across some tracks of this group while surfing Limewire and fell in love with their stuff. I had a lot of their material as MP3 and decided it was good enough to purchase the CD's.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, July 16, 2001
By Clarissa "MoonGoddess" (Ontario, California) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
After hearing the song Shades of the Underworld off the Elevation 3 compilation I just figured that Underworld would be just as good, if not better. But upon listening to it I confess that I felt like crying. Here I was, expecting Celtic-dance fusion (which isn't their fault, I know), and instead of swaying my body from side to side I was pulling my hair out (not literally!) while listening to boring zzzzzz time background music. The songs are dully redundant and thankfully at times beautiful and lulling, but that's NOT what I was LOOKING FOR! Another complaint is how similar The Marriage of Princess Niamh and The Dancing Fairies sound to the last two songs Return of the King and Banquet at Tara. That, among other things, really turned me off. But beyond this gloomy damper two good things did come from all this downpouring.... Shadow of Atlantis is an uplifting ambient pop song with lush, female singing, and Lord of the Underworld is absolutely splendid with its melancholy mien and Gregorian chantings, hence the reason for choosing three instead of two or even one star. And although I was bitterly disappointed with this release I'm still encouraged to buy their forthcoming album Sleeping With the Gods of Love because I feel that Dagda really do have potential they just don't know how to use it. Hopefully their next attempt will be better.
