Product Description

Amazon.com Review

This is an adequate no-frills manual bread slicer, and adequate is the operative word. The crumb catcher eliminates messes, making this slicer a much cleaner option than slicing bread on a cutting board. Also, you can achieve uniform 1/2-inch slices; the only caveat is that you can't adjust the slicer to cut any thicker or thinner. Use your longest serrated knife when cutting, because a knife that just barely spans the width of the slicing tray will keep slipping out of the acrylic slicing guides. The guides have no top support and tend to wobble a bit as you slice. They also have inexplicably high sides; you'd have to use triple the leavening to make bread that reaches the top of them. Despite its design limitations, the Norpro deluxe bread slicer is easy to assemble and maintain and has an attractive overall look. --Carol Gnojewski

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty much does what it says., October 26, 2002
By Evelyn D. Cruze "evwings" (Crescent City, FL United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Only two things could be adjusted for me to like this slicer better. 1 - the grooves could be deeper to keep from slicing into the wood. 2 - the guide could be adjustable. Other than that, it is a handy tool to use with baked bread. We use a bread machine that makes a pound and a half loaf. This has really removed the guess work of slicing. The bread should be cooled a little before attempting to slice. We often take bread to functions and using this we now have nice even slices. It is a lot neater using it rather than a plain board, too. All in all, a great kitchen aide.

1.0 out of 5 stars [Low grade] pine, September 5, 2002
By A Customer
A great idea for a product, but it is made of a [low] grade of unfinished pine, stapled together and bit too small for most loafs.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money!, February 4, 2002
By A Customer
I wish I had read the previous review before I bought this, because it was not worth it!! It is too wide for a normal bread knife, and the slices DO NOT come out even and pretty. I got more even slices just using my hand to hold the bread than I did using this. I was really looking forward to having nice, thin bread slices on my homeade bread and this was a huge disappointment. Don't buy it!

4.0 out of 5 stars bread slicer w/crumb catcher
It keeps the bread slices even and no torn pieces. Needs to be put together. The slots could be a little thinner for slicing. It reminds me of Texas toast slices, thick.
