5.0 out of 5 stars The WHOLE Prince Far I album, November 25, 2005
By Jasper (New England) - See all my reviews
Frontline put out a cd called "Black Man Land" some years back mixing two Prince Far I LPs, "Message From The King" and "Livity." Annoyingly, Frontline did not include either album in its entirety. The excellent "Livity" was missing but one track, while "Message From The King" was missing three. This is not acceptable. Finally "Message From The King" came out as a whole disc. As far as I can tell, the brilliant "Livity" is still only available in its shortened form on "Black Man Land."

Long story short, this is the only way to get all of the "Message From The King" tracks on one cd, and having been mastered from the original tapes, they are well worth it. The Prince worked to give us a cohesive listening experience, and all of his LPs are worth enjoying in their complete forms with the original track listings. Frontline has done well putting out the whole Prince Far I LP "Long Life" (it's great, get it!), and "Messgae From The King." I now await the release of "Livity" in its entirety...

5.0 out of 5 stars another revelation from jah's voice, October 8, 2008
By Dennis York (Vancouver,WA) - See all my reviews

See my other review of Prince Far-I's
Heavy Manner's Anthology.Great voice.
Too bad he's left us.
Too many reggae greats have prematurely gone.
It is an experience not unlike Charlton Heston's on Mt. Sinai!
Far-I gives James Earl Jones a run for his money.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite CD by the Prince, August 11, 2006
I already had the Black Man Land compilation, which contains some but not all of the tracks found on this CD. When I learned about Message from the King, I knew I had to have it because I wanted to hear the album as originally envisioned by Prince Far I. It is really one of the great releases to come out Jamaica. My favorite track is Commandment of Drugs, where he berates users of hard drugs and cheerfully extolls the virtues of marijuana, declaring that he prefers " the J-Stuff. The Jamaican Stuff - Lambs Bread. Or... the Columbia Gold." (You have to hear how the words, "Columbia Gold" roll off his tongue to understand why I enjoy this part so much.) The combination of the over-the-topic text, the growl of his voice as an instrument unto itself, the totally spaced-out guitar accents, and rumbling bass make this a reggae classic.

Foggy Road is almost at the same level thanks to the beautiful cadence of the Prince's voice during the spoken narrative and then the rolling, song-song rhythm of the refrain.

This is a must for any lover of truly original music, regardless of genre.
