Editorial Reviews

From CCM Magazine -- Subscribe Now!
Teen pop is imbedding its catchy, yet provocative, lyrics into the minds of countless teenagers, so it's refreshing to see V*Enna offering a spiritual alternative with a high-energy sound. The duo-made up of Lucy Britten and Sharnessa Shelton-follows the pattern of old and new groups alike, from ABBA to ShineMK. The opening title cut and subsequent "Make That Noize" could easily be heard in a '70s disco club but just as feasibly appear in a hit video on MTV. The ladies don't just focus on the dance jams, though. They slow things down for some power pop ballads, like the uplifting "Sometimes" and the disc's finale "Don't Get Left Behind," a track bearing uncanny resemblance to the Spice Girls' "Goodbye." All together, the record risks sounding too similar from start to finish. Still, the disc has obvious potential appeal to young music fans, offering lyrics that are simple, catchy and repetitive. -- Andy Argyrakis (c) 2000 CCM Communications, Inc.

3.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait to get it!, March 13, 2005
A Kid's Review
I haven't bought this CD (Cuz I don't have any money at the moment) but I will. I don't like much pop music (Like Jump5 or Auroua) but this is good and I can't wait to get it. unlike Jump5, it isn't cheesy and isn't double-meaning. My fave song is "Best Friends" oh, and guess what these girls can actually sing! Whoo-hoo! I usually pick music with a more mature style but this isn't THAT kidish and I do like it.
But if you aren't into pop music, it may not be your thing, unless-like me- you have an open mind to whatever the Lord creates for His glory. Even if you aren't a Christian-don't be pushed away by the fact they talk about God. If you like pop music, you may enjoy it. Sorry to hear they broke up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, March 17, 2004
A Kid's Review
If you like the new group of girls called Shine, then you'll probably like V*Enna. They're styles and voices sound VERY much alike. If you want to see my opinion on the songs...

"Where I Wanna Be": This is a REALLY fun, good song. It's really fun to dance to. I like the intro a lot. It's one of my favorites on the CD.

"Make That Noize": I really do like this song. It's fun to dance to and fun to sing. It must have been awesome when it was live. Another favorite.

"Do You Wanna Know": I like this song a lot. Sharnessa sounded relly good when she starts the bridge. It's another favorite. It reminds me a lot of "Do You Believe In Love?" by Shine.

"Sometimes": This is a pretty song. It's pretty good, but not a favorite.

"Why Did I Let You Go?": I really like this song. It used to be a favorite, but it's something I don't listen to a lot anymore.

"Sunshine and Rain": I LOVE this song. I kind of like the older version better on their first CD (On All The Way To Heaven: The Maxi-Single). Another favorite.

Best Friends: This song is pretty cool. I used to listen to it all the time, but not really Anymore.

"Hold On": Of course, who doesn't like this song? I LOVE this song. It's very sweet. Another favorite.

"Don't Stop": I like this song. It's fun to sing. I really like the way Sharnessa sounds on the first verse.

"All The Way To Heaven": This is probably their signature song. I like it a lot. It's a little hard to compare with the first version (Also on the maxi-single). Another favorite.

"Don't Get Left Behind": This REALLY is a favorite. I love the message in it. It's very pretty. It's kind of like a love song.

Anyway, I'd recomend to anybody who likes Shine. If you're a huge fan of someone like the Newsboys or Rebecca St. James (Like I am), you probably woulden't like them to much.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great band who sings great songs AND wears clothes!, September 12, 2003
By A Customer
After Britney Spear's debut album, "Baby One More Time" hit stores way-back-when, the whole world went beserk. Britney's yeah-yeah-yeah voice was a favorite among many teens, and she grew up to be a very naughty girl. *tisk tisk*
I've known a couple of girls who were fans of Britney, and every time I went over to see them, they'd have Britney's shoo-bop shoo-bop music playing in their rooms. Not really a nice thing to hear on Sundays after church, especially.
Well, after I saw Britney's newest album, I totally lost it. I loved music, but I was also a Christian, and all I owned was praise and worship music. I really liked what the secular artists/bands had to offer, with the funky beats, and the techno sounds. I just didn't like their sexy and impositive lyrics.
After searching endlessly, I found V*Enna. Wow. I've never heard such awesome Christian music in all my life. I tell you, they rock! Some of their lyrics aren't exactly "creative" in some songs, but the beats are cool. My favorite songs out of the whole album are "Where I Wanna Be" and "Make that Noize". Those songs are great for dancing to. Some other songs like "Don't Get Left Behind" and "Why Did I Let You Go" are slower, but they are nice to listen to. :-)

Sounds Like:
(Secular): A*teens or ABBA, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilara
(Christian): Jump5, ZOEgirl, and WhisperLoud

Bottom Line? I totally love this CD. The reason why I gave it a 4, is because only SOME of the songs didn't fit me enough to give a 5. I really recommend this CD to TEENS. This CD is best appreciated around the 12-16 age group. Of course, there are some adults who like this CD - which is okay too, so if you're an adult, you might like this CD or not. Just listen to some of the samples on this page. :)

Interested? I promise you, I've searched and searched all over the Net and found that Amazon.com's got the cheapest price on this CD. If you don't care if it's new or not, try looking in the "Used & Unused" section on this page. There has got to be a couple people who are willing to give up their V*Enna CD. :)

Happy listening! ;-)
